Scratch to the heart

I just noticed that my watch (that i wear on daily basis on any occasion) already has a few scratches on the case.
It pains the feel a lot because it no longer looks "new".
Did you guys also experience this? Care to share some story?

A scratch on a watch is like a scar on a person.

It's a badge of honor in that you've been in a few battles and came out the other side.

Celebrate it.

It’s simply part of wearing watches. They will accumulate minor scratches and dents along the way. You can work on your awareness while wearing a watch to minimize it but it’s not 100% avoidable. Luxury watchmakers typically provide complimentary polishing during interval service and the watch comes back looking good as new again.

Indeed. On the flip side, Patek won't refinish a watch unless you ask for it. They prefer not to erase history unless requested. I like that mindset regardless of manufacturer.

I have a few on both my watches because I wear them.
I don't like them and don't run with the idea that they give you some kind of memory of an event.

I will live with my scratches until service (apart from the chip in the Daytona crystal that drove me mad so I sent it back for a new one - which incidentally Rolex did and charged me less than I would have guessed at £200)

I'm not hard on my watches but I don't exactly care about scratches either. Never bothered me.

Ever since starting wearing gold watches frequently I gave up keeping my watches "pristine" as there is no way to avoid hairlines and light scratches. It's only when I get a proper scuff I temporarily get bothered.

That first scratch always stings, but it's life. I remember gouging the bezel of my Planet Ocean badly on a brick wall, It happened when I turned around to check on our elderly little chihuahua who was following behind me on some stairs and when I turned back around - Boom - knocked my watch hand on the wall, scratching the bezel...

I have thought about replacing it one day, maybe for the next service, but the gouge reminds me of that pleasant walk we did (while visiting my brother in DC). It was one of his last walks (on a trip) and shortly after that we lost him to heart failure.
