Anyone doing winter holidays this year ?

We cancelled our accommodation in lanzarote on Tue for December as couldn’t do the 14 days quarantine return as I’m self employed/ would also have just covered Xmas & our daughter looking to come back from university. Flights non refundable so we were just prepared to write off.

Sods law - the quarantine rules updated 2 days later that no quarantine now from the uk to the canaries

We got our full deposit back just as the rules changed

We’re now having a ‘debate’ as my other 1/2 wants to see if we can rebook whereas I’m happy with the cash back & leaving it this year. Maybe going for a local break. There’s a 5 tier restriction setup to be announced in Scotland on November 2nd so last thing I want is to rebook & then the rules change & we’ve lost the deposit that we may not get back again (50% deposit on a villa for 2 weeks so a sum in itself). I also read its masks in all public areas inc the beaches unless sitting down or in the water. We’d come back with white mask tan lines.

Anyone else just going for it this year or giving it a miss until the situation comes under control whenever that may be ?

I can’t remember the last time I spent the holidays at home. I’m looking forward to not going anywhere this year at this point. I’m sure I’d have a good time despite restrictions, but I’ve decided to build a snow bike to single track with instead. I will likely go on a biking trip to Colorado next spring. But I’ve been doing my best to stay as far away from people as possible. I’ve only known one person with corona so far and she’s still got symptoms months later.

Not this year - no plans being booked or looked at right now either.

Still far too much unpredictability for us to plan around

Will spend part of the upcoming holidays at our vacation home. That’s our new tradition and I don’t think we will break it this year.

I have a flight to Romania for Christmas - as I do every year.
Not entirely sure I'll be able to fly

We'll see. Make the best out of it.

No change to normal plans, Christmas and NY in Utah at our cabin. Skiing, snowmobiling, and sledding. Family coming out from Chicago to join us. Picking up friends from the airport tonight that spent a week at Disney and said it was awesome. Get out and LIVE!!!!

We’re skipping flights to see family - visited this summer using the RV instead. Planning to go on some mtn biking trips with the RV to Fruita and Sedona for Thanksgiving and Christmas instead.

We’ve been to Gran Canaria a couple of times in December and have been considering it again this year, but are reluctant to book anything as rules change all the time. We waited 4 months to get our money back from our last holiday with Virgin. If isolating is a week we could live with that, but not two.

We're doing a few trips where we can drive. Rented a cabin in the mountains 2 hours from home. Also going to spend a week at our beach house. I never thought I say it but I miss flights, airports, hotels etc.

Nope, thanksgiving at the in-laws 20 miles away. Christmas at our house then theirs. Possibly go to the cabin in Tennessee to see snow but that’s a big maybe. We have been declining parties left and right and are only interacting with colleagues, close friends and family at this point.

I have an annual ski trip planned to Aspen with my regular crew. I think we are about 15 people this year.
DLA not flying into Aspen this year so I am booked into Eagle/Vail and driving from there.
BUT, as daily Covid cases soar and we head into Flu season, I am thinking of DRIVING my new (used low mileage) X5 35d instead of flying. Yes, that would be a pita from ATL, but I've not been anywhere in months, and I love a road trip, so it may be worth it.
Must Ski!

My winter holiday plans are to ski a lot this year. Would like to get 50+ days in. Hopefully the resorts stay open/safe and aren't totally overrun because of wfh/new work flexibility standards.

Yeah, we were stuck in Egypt for an extra week or so, but all went well! My wife is getting antsy for a trip! Sure there is always a chance of issues, but life is too short! Besides Cuba and Mexico are a lot closer to home then Egypt!!

I have been flying since April. I have zero concerns of COVID on a flight with the HEPA filters. Mandatory masks, and the level of cleaning. Probably way safer than going to a restaurant.

Oh we are all packed and waiting to go back again as soon as they lift travel restrictions. I also have no issue what so ever taking chances or any chances if I can go somewhere. I see the maldive islands are allowing worldwide people in with only a proper 72 hour prior to the flight COVID Test and lots of people are traveling there now including from the States... If it was up to me, we would have just stayed back in Sri lanka..:)

I just saw the Lanai, and island off of Maui had zero cases last week and 65 right now. It's thought that it wasn't from tourism being allowed on the 15th but instead from locals returning home/traveling and not quarantining properly for 14 days.

One or two local markets and gas stations and it spread like wildfire. No hospital on the island.

Hope they have no deaths.

I wish the government would close the borders and stop all winter holidays. All this foreign travel, mixing with strangers just spreads COVID-19 and kicks off another wave, leading to more deaths and more lockdown

After the way last winter’s Italian ski season spread COVID-19 around Europe, then after months of lockdown suppressing the virus, we had the summer holidays kicking off the second wave.

Do we really want to be, as Boris called it, “squashing the sombrero” for years to come?
