Rear Car Seat Covers - Puking Infant

Anyone have any good ideas for protecting rear seats from a puke prone infant?

Should I try to get proper covers specifically for my car, or just Macgyver it with some type of blanket or generic cover. I have a cover for the rear of the front passenger seat (in front of the infant seat) so that’s OK I think.

There’s also a spray / treatment which the Dealer mentioned which apparently will protect the leather and apparently make it easier to clean.

I’m moving from black leather interior to a lighter leather which will I suspect will be harder to clean.

Put the kid inside one before every trip and you will be fine.

Honestly though, no matter how hard you try to avoid the eventuality, your kid will find a way around your best devices.

This is what we got from Amazon for our infant to try to protect the seats. It seems to be doing a good job so far.

My oldest gets bloody noses. Typically it ends up looking a murder scene mixed with some biblical reference, as the blood seeps from his tear ducts, as well as some Exorcist thrown in when he pukes up the coagulated goblins. I ended up with proper, car-specific seat covers in the back (Covercraft, I think). Tried the sheet thing, and it was very annoying. This was in a Subaru Outback with cream-colored leather. Traded it in and you never would’ve known what all took place back there.

Laughed when I saw this thread.
We nearly went crazy constantly stripping and washing the Lambswool liner from the Baby Capsule and the Lambswool seat cover in the back.
The back of the car constantly smelt like puke.
Fortunately not a "projectile vomiter" (these are a REAL challenge)
Only lasted for a short time but it was an issue for a while.
My solution is just a big old wooly blanket that you can easily remove and toss in the wash. Good luck (it doesn't last forever).

We used a blanket that we put over the back seat and under the car seat. I think we had two or three so we could rotate. My wife would toss them in the wash when they got dirty.

My wife's car looks like a ghetto movie theatre. Thankfully no kiddo in my current car but that will change at some point.

We have a local detail shop that takes care of messes like that for like 30-40 bucks. If its not that often it may be an option.

One thing I will recommend is buying a few 10 packs of microfiber cloths and leaving one in the car at all times. They are great for cleanups of all sorts.

I'd buy 4 large beach towels, put a couple of layers in the car, and rotate them when necessary.

The struggle is real. Our oldest kid is a vomit machine, born that way and remains so to this day. When they are young it's rough and unpredictable, and there was no stopping the ooze into the crevices. He was solid by 4-5 years old, in regards to adequate warning, using a bag. On the flip-side, our younger kid (now 7) has never thrown up beyond spit-up after a bottle feed, but is somehow guaranteed to win a belching contest in his later years.

I had a spu-machine for a little one also.

I gave up and had the car professionally detailed after every long trip.

About $100 in Vegas, but $250 in N.Cal!! Had to be done, no way we'd survive that smell coming home.

Luckily he has mostly avoided the seats.

Don’t think vomit and perforated leather mix well. Especially once the heated seats come on.

We generally use towels though when he is unwell to protect fabrics as they can quickly be swapped and washed.

Exactly. No matter what you get, food/toys/gunk will get under it. You’ll think you’re doing well until you pull the cover and find gold fish and Cheerios from the week before.

My son vomited straight into the back of the driver’s seat of my 100D when it was less than a week old. First and only time I was glad Tesla didn’t put pockets back there...

Adjust you’re expectations and plan for normalcy once the car seats go away.

I have only one biological incident, but it was mostly contained in the car seat haha. I have spilled various other liquids (juice, water, etc) and none of it made it to the leather under the covers. Totally worth it, plus the extra cushion is more comfortable and protect from the car seats gouging the original seat material

I’ve had no trouble cleaning the car. Cleaning the car seat is the bigger issue for me.
