Rolex in my family's safety deposit box for 50+ years
It looks like it is in horrible shape (and all I know about vintage watches is what I've read online tonight). But I can't find any photos of a Rolex that looks like this one. It was owned by my great uncle, who was born some time in the 1890's, and died before I remember (I was born in 1958). My parents both died this year, and all I know is that this watch and some other jewelry came from this uncle who was a bookie in Chicago way back when (scandal!)
Thanks for any info/help you can give me! I already learned a lot, as I was going to take it to a jeweler to see if it could be cleaned and tuned up (it runs slow)... and now it appears that I should wait on that!!! -Gail |

Typical gent's case from the 40s-50s.
Appears to be some carat gold. Has a typical 710 calibre movement. It's probably early to mid 40's because it isn't touting Shock Resisting on the dial although the dial appears to have been refinished so all bets are off at that point. Band is not Rolex. If it is something you like...it is worth putting the money into having the movement serviced. If not...you might be better off to sell it as is. Better photos would be advantageous. |

A jeweler is the last place I would bring a vintage Rolex to.
