Grab the popcorn...Where is this bad-boy 5517 MilSub going to end up?

It's been some time since we have seen a full-spec 5517 military issue Rolex Submariner appear at auction...

Fellows Auctioneers in Birmingham UK have a cracker coming up in their August fine watch sale!

Start placing your bets: where will the gavel fall?

Not one of my watches, and I have no connection to the Auction House, but very excited to see this watch appear to the market. I think we can expect a very big number...

It should be an interesting auction. I much prefer to watch pieces like this at auction than the usual fare of modern pieces at inflated prices.

The auction is on their front page with the MilSub as illustration:
https://www.fellows.co.uk/

There are only 8 lots, you have to work hard to miss it:
MilSub

This one is 870/78 on that contract number. A couple of past auctions posted below. Seems at different times the same contract was used to order different numbers of watches from Rolex.

2015 auction - same Royal Navy Contract Number MilSub $173K USD price with premium @ Christie’s
https://www.christies.com/lotfinder/...0-details.aspx

666/77

Also from 2015 - about $130K using today’s forex @ Phillips

Hi Paul,

The Christies watch was a double reference milSub (case model number 5513, and "5517" stamped on the back of one lug); the Phillips watch a 5513 milSub (5513 case model number).

The Fellows watch is a 5517 milSub (case model number 5517), which was the reference exclusively allocated by Rolex to the British Ministry of Defence (like the Comex model 5514 Submariner). Less than 150 milSub 5517s were ever produced, and only a fraction of them are left in full-spec configuration with the T-circle dial, sword / gladiator hands, 60 minute marker bezel, fixed strap bars, and original matching case back with engraved military markings.

This is a special watch...and it will sell for a lot of money!

MW

I would love a Milsub... but they rarely, if ever, come up for sale.

I'll watch this auction with interest. I may even post a cheeky bid.
