Because it’s Rolex’s first commemorative watch, first watch announced outside Basel and first watch announced in the US. It had a limited run and will be highly collectible. Look to history as Ken points out.

Expanding on this; look at Patek and AP with the 5711 and 15202 - the original design is always the prized one. Any marginal aesthetic improvements will be outweighed by the fact that the original is now discontinued after a very short 4 year run.

Hopefully prices remain the same or increase. I’m kind of in that camp that may sell to upgrade to the new one, but won’t do it until I see the new one and try one on in the flesh.
