Any 249 "California" Owners Here?

Any 249 owners here?

I just learned that the watch has a plexiglass crystal. Is that true and if so, why would they do that?

In deference to its heritage, I'm sure. The original design is from 1936. From what I understand, it's not difficult to remove scratches from the crystal. Search on Paneristi.com, and you'll find the product that most use to clean it.

I have one, the plexi domed crystal is true to the original 1936 watch.
I have no issues with dings on mine. Hit the wall once, but just got wall paint on the crystal, rubbed it with an regular cloth & it's pretty close to new.
The marks just add character.
Mine is for me to wear & enjoy, so not too worried about little marks.

Have the 232 also, this needs the domed plexi too.

249 also comes with an additional crystal. The plexiglass adds character to the watch.

Plexi can be polished back to remove any surface scratches, plus you do get a spare as part of the deal. What ever you do, don't let that stop you from buying the 249

I'm really warming up to the Radiomir since trying one on in Vegas last week...just wish it was smaller. I know Panerai is suppose to be big, but I'm into smaller as of late.

another 249 checking in here...
I agree with Launch Mini, marks just add more character to the watch. How can you resist the beauty of the cali dial?

Well, I have to admit, did not like the looks of the 249 until I saw one in person. Was very very nice in the flesh and very classic looking. Love the domed plexiglass crystal, california dial and the blue hnads!!!!! Just do not think it is worth the current market price though. If I could find one at retail I may buy. The only other thing I do not like is the only 30meter water resistance, as does not really stay true to the watches roots and not a good replica of the original 1936s. But, I imagine most who buy are buying for for collection purposes, investment purposes, or to wear for special occasions or GTGs, and not for strapping it on to the outside of a wet suit and doing a tactical swim or waterborne insertion to place a mine on a ship's hull !
