Traded my trusty Sea Dweller.
For a minty PAM111!
I know they made a few thousand of these with the painted dials and smaller polished crown guard, but this is the first one I've seen in the flesh. Excuse the poor quality pics...and hope I don't miss the dweller! |

Thanks!!!
Now I need to figure out whether or not to keep my 000J. I love them both, but they really do look damn near alike. What's been your favorite strap on the 111? |

That one has been on the "wish-list" for a while. Maybe if I also sell both my Logo & 42mm Planet Ocean. The planet ocean is a killer watch, esp at the pricepoint, but it does get outclassed when up against rolex/panerai. I need to try and limit big ticket items for a while unless I do the trade/sell thing. I may hit a similar problem with the 243 looking too close to the 24 which I already have. (BTW, the 24 is by far the most favorite piece that I've owned...I never get bored of it.) |

Glad to hear a positive report about the 24. I have recently acquired the "itch" after seeing one in person. I'd never really cared for them much before I think because pictures don't do them justice - but on the wrist and in person they're a stunning watch! Hope to join the club soon |

Great shots!!!!
So what made you decide to go painted? I'm thinking the same thing here. I'm looking at a 111G which is painted. I'm thinking that b/c I'm also thinking about a 210 or 232 which are rad sammies.

I find that the 24 has a really nice balance of visual features: Brushed bezel against the polished case/crownguard. Slightly smaller dial with applied markers. Skeleton hands. Slightly smaller cyclops (some have a larger cyclops with more visible edge than mine) Polished hobnails on the bezel that pick up light and sparkle. It's rugged, yet can be dressy. I really enjoy it. The 243 is the other one I like, but it definitely does look smaller next to the 24, and is all brushed, so it may not go as well with everything. I love the thicker crystal and the beefier bezel. The crown guard also makes it look more rugged/tool. I really like that 1950 case. It's definitely a great watch and one that I'm still eyeing. I don't know if it's worth the price difference though for a new one, maybe used. Others that I like but are no longer available are the 194 large sub, the blue and black dial subzillas, and the blue dial North Pole GMT. I haven't seen any of them in person though. I'll try to take some pics of the 24, but you are right, in person it seems much more rocking. There is a great pic in their 07 or 08 catalog of the 24 if you have that. |

I also like the "PANERAI PANERAI" movement more than the newer ones. Under some lighting conditions, the painted letters look like they're on top of the dial, and under other conditions, they look flush or inset, which I find kind of neat. Now, this is not to say that I don't like the sandwich dial ones. I really like the newer 177's and love the 233, and would even consider the sandwich 111's. |

From what I've gathered, the later 01's are basically the same as the early 111's, minus the display caseback that's on the 111E/F, and the brushed crown guard of the 111G. I find the display caseback a plus. The 111's also have the upgraded movement. The other thing I noticed the current 000's, 005's, and the older painted dial 111's have smaller, less obtrusive lettering on the dial. That is purely an aesthetic difference, but it is noticable when you have them side by side. Also, the new 111's have a more cream colored lettering instead of white. |

24 and 243 two different animals. The 24 is smaller in thickness and more of a daily wearer. 243 also has a tritium dial.

Is the 44mm Sub bigger than the 44mm Lum? Is this making sense?

It's a bit heavier/taller. You definitely know it's there more, but in a good way! The actual case size is the same. The caseback on the 111 is thinner than the automatics. I definitely wouldn't say it's "much bigger". If you pull off a 111, you can pull off the 24

Have you ever measured the thickness on that 243? I'd be curious to know what the specs are. Unfort, it seems the new K series 243's are coming with Luminova. Love both of those

I have never measured the differences. The 24 wears slightly larger than luminor but very similar. The 243 I notice much more and rarely wear it. If forced to pick one it would depend on daily wearer or once in a while wearer. Both great watches but different.
