Why PAM ???

I guess I am a little "slow", but why do we refer to a Panerai as a PAM. Am I missing something here?

I'll go along with that just because......but it still makes no sense to me since the word "Model" isn't on the dial of the watch. Just my 2 cents really.

The watch is a Panerai.

You use PAM when describing which Panerai you have.

What is that watch? Its a Panerai.

Which one? Its a PAM 111 or Its a 111.

Also, its printed on the cardboard out box when you buy a Panerai.

They are all PAM + 5 digits.

i.e. PAM00111

Synonymous with Rolex's sytle
16610
116710LN
etc.

Not sure where the continued ?'s come from...this pretty much eliminates any confusion or need for further explanation. Thanks for the info...I too have wondered this often and never knew of the combination of the name & model...great info!

I just wish their numbers were meaningful. Like all 100's are Luminors or something like that.

They are all over the place. No sense to the numbers, you just need to remember them. It is crazy and somehow addictive to try and remember them all. It is weird, but I hear 232, 111, 001, 061, 024, 249, 177, 088, etc., etc., etc. and all I think and see are watches.

Kind of like looking at "Matrix" (the movie) code.

PAM is the name given by the company, not buy us (the enthusiasts). Like everyone said, it's for PAnerai Model. Trying to figure out why Panerai decided on this, or why and company comes up with names for their models, is probably a losing battle.
