Sky Dweller Changed to Batons

I've just noticed the entire range is now batons with numerals having been removed.

Yup .... I do think this design is cleaner than the original Roman numerals ... but I’m sure many original Skydweller won’t like there is now less differentiation from stainless and PM

This could help the WG Sky owners out there who were stung by the introduction of the SS model. Makes the WG version more unique and hopefully helps their collectability factor in the future

No its not. Its still here with the black dial.

Please post live pics of the new dials if anyone has them. I like the lume on the dials and will probably trade my one for one with the lume.

Thinking the YG with Black or White dial looks pretty good but need to see real life pics.

Sorry for the silly question but what’s batons lume? And how is it different from what it had before? I can’t see a difference
Thanks

As a wg roman dial owner, very happy to see it discontinued...

Proud owner of Rolex's first Mark1 annual calendar!!!

(Though, need to check the new master catalog to confirm this news)

Baton markers have lume. Earlier numeral markers didn't have lume. Only hands had lume.

WG bezel is the only WG left in the SkyD lineup.

I guess the WG is gone because sales would've been really poor since it looks so similar to the SS version that people wouldn't spend the extra $30k or so. I don't think WG has been selling all that well compared to other PMs. Usually when people spend gold money they want yellow or rose. Platinum is different story.

Now I think the 326139 WG, black dial with arabic numerals was a great looking watch! Leather suits it really well.

My heart is in turmoil..... I wanted the WG, then the SS came out and I was torn. Its less expensive but I felt like the WG would be the king of my collection.
Then I told myself, well at least the roman numerals and the center dial are different (color different from dial) so the WG is still the boss.
NOW!!! no numerals, no WG, all the dials are the same color. Rolex has never done this to a model. There has always been a difference between PM and SS. I guess thats gone now. I am still on the list for a blue SS and will get it when it comes in, just bitching to my fellow Rolex lovers. The girlfriend is tired of hearing about it. lol

Yeah...I feel you, my brother. I loved the center dial in white on the WG model. And the heft and presence...just superb. In a perfect world, I could live with the steel with black dial if they would just make the center dial white.

Oh well...

Believe me, there are 7-8 differences between the wg/roman/ivory and ss/stick/white --- some are subtle, some are not so subtle. People who are saying that they look the same are wrong, but I'm not going to argue.

If you want a wg/roman, you can easily source it from grey market and get a nice ~30% discount like many other pm models. They are easily going to be available for the next few years.

At present there is no wg version of the sky-d in the lineup and no numeral version in the lineup. To me these make it even more special. Hope it stays that way!!

The removal of the romans/Arabic seems like a step backward from a functionality standpoint. The numerals perfectly fit the ease of telling the month (not that it’s a hardship w the batons)

Having just purchased a WG SD I know I cannot tell a difference looking at on line photos. My AD did not mention there was an SS version. In fact it was represented as a special edition. I bought it solely based on this premise even though I was looking for a match to YG submariner. I feel a little silly after posting on this web site. I will say I like the simplicity of the bars but I can't he;p feeling a little scr....wd. I was looking at PP watch and think I may have been better served spending the extra 20k. The Rolex is prettier but I can't help feeling like it was a bait and switch.

I have to agree , The yellow gold champaign dial Roman is amazing , the Roman white gold on bracelet is also amazing . I have the full bracelet white gold Arabic its incredible looks nothing like SS . I too feel they have stepped back. The sky dweller was one of the few models Rolex has done that could pull off Roman numerals.

Hey don't be crazy! . I too have the WG black face roman full bracelet . So much fun to use , killer looks , Rolex tuff and all in-house , Im sure a service won't cost an arm and a leg like some brands , the sky dweller is genius and it hacks ! Its stunning and silk to wear, perfect proportions if your man . It is now a very special model late 2014 axed in 2018 . Thats 4 years of limited numbers, the price alone has made it rear. Rolex nowadays are everywhere , the PM models are the special pieces. With the crazy wait lists and speculative prices , buying a PM model sky dweller at 20-30% off retail is a bargain .
