Now what does it mean for the “old” DEEP-BLUE?

With the release of the new deep blue, what does that mean for the older “MK1” version?
Will it increase in value being discontinued
Or will it get less interest in light of the newer caliber?

I think it will steadily increase in value over time, as it is the first generation and the true commemorative version. That's what Rolex history shows - incremental upgrades do not kill the previous generation.

It won't be the drastic overnight jump I would have expected if the line was outright discontinued without a replacement. Might even be a temporary dip as people who would have bought Gen 1 now flip to Gen 2.

The first generation will probably go down in price in the pre-owned market for a while as people who want one will buy the newer one, which is in many way a more attractive proposition due to the new movement and wider bracelet.

I see both sides of the argument.

I think the prices of the current version might dip slightly as a result of this newer 'improved" version however, the difficulty in getting a new one might help to keep prices of the old reasonable.

Yup... this collectibility thing it’s going to be a thing for a long time. And even then your jc-1 will have to be NIB.

Old one will tank because the new one is the same but with new generation movement.

I agree that it will dip a little short term, but over time it will gain in value as it will be the “original” JC.

If I had the JC already I would keep it and not seek the 126660 version. However, how easy it will be to get is yet to be seen, although I am first on my AD’s list. For others it might be more difficult

Depends on how long they run the JC edition in the new case. If the two tone dial is run for a long period of time then version one will always have the distinction of being the first. If they run version 2 with the two tone dial for one or two years only and then no more it will be the rarest of the breed.
Personally-My version one is staying with me !

the JC will be eventually for collectors the price will be the same until you can no longer buy one new at the AD after the stocks are empty. Once that s done, the price will go up as they become harder to get in NIB condition. Supply and demand.
i was in Cancun, and the dealer sold one the day before I was there.
He had another one coming the next day, and asked me if i wanted it, that was last week. So if you are around downtown cancun, give the Rolex AD a call, he might still have it.
it s a nice watch...i think the new one, might be nice since the bracelet has been revised.

Im sure the prices for the old D-Blue will sink as you have big improvements in the new one and still is the same - so everyone will go with new one

I think it will hold value and increase in the far future.
Rolex have effectively made a limited edition, "the Rolex way".
They didn't disco it but now the older is the original JC commemorative watch.
If that bracelet makes the new one heavy it will be a no-go for many regardless of proportions. The older bracelet may have been slim but it worked. I don't want a thick metal wristband, and as for the movement, the 3135 is bullet proof.

Because SS sports Rolex always sink when new versions or updates are introduced. Yes just look what happened to 16710’s, 16520’s, 116520’s, etc. Many many examples out there. So yes good call they will sink big time if history is any indicator of future for Rolex SS sports watches. Sell sell sell and hurry up you don’t want to be the last to get out!

I think for the short term, 116660 price will drop a little. but, long term, I believe it will be worth more than 126660. Even that it a very similar watch, 126660 is a 2nd gen with a new model number. 116660 is the 1st gen, original.
Also depends on how long and how many the 2nd Gen is produced. If Rolex only make it for a year and completely discontinue the D-blue model, then maybe it will worth a lot more than the 1st Gen. Like some people seek out a "Flat 4" kermit. Is it a feature that's more desirable? not necessarily. but it is rarer, therefore, worth more.

I'm keeping my JC for life, so the value isn't important to me. If it turns into a collectors piece, well my son will inherit a bad @$$ watch. If it doesn't turn into a collectors piece, my son will still be inheriting as bad @$$ watch.

Ditto... although in my case it'll be my nephew who inherits...but the result is the same... I'm happy with my old JC... it'll be on my wrist for many years to come...

cheers

I believe the upgrades are significant and once in the market the new watch will be the one that is sought after. Prices on the black dial will dip a lot and the JC more than what most owners want to see. When the demand for the new model is satisfied in a few years the prices on the older model will bounce up.

The new model's scarcity will prop the old models' price. Not sure why anyone would buy the old models other than them being readily available and cheaper. It's the DJ2 all over again IMHO. Too bad for those who bought the old ones at the 11th hour hoping that they'd be discontinued. Massed produced products are rarely good investments.
