Just like the improvements to the explorer I...the new is better.

Strictly speaking, the 116660 reference has been discontinued. So at least that prediction was half right.

Yeah, the bolder text on the mk I is much nicer. I do like the wider bracelet on the new model. I don't have any problem with the narrower bracelet but the new one is definitely better proportioned to the watch.

D-BLUE (new) vs D-BLUE (old)

The six o'clock marker is narrower than the vintage marker. Also the 9 o'clock marker . Plus the 12 triangle marker is pointier. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I had to look really hard to see the difference in bracelet. Looks like the center link is slightly wider. The font and the crown at 6 o'clock are the only other two I can tell the difference.

Honestly these changes don't make much difference to me, at 40,000 ft from the air no one will really care unless you are such a purist that will use a micrometer and a microscope to identify these changes. My 1st gen is on the way to me now, and I think that the premium for the 2nd gen is not worth it to go to the 2nd gen. Another plot from Rolex to make you change and or buy the new one. Very much like Apple and their Iphones
Nice comparison by the way!!

I liked it before and now I like it even more to buy. Either version still works. It is the size and the unique gradient dial that make the watch.

I was told two versions, one is by the end of this summer, and the next one is Sept 2019.

Then I guess it depends on how available the new "improved" model is... |

The small crown between Swiss Made appears distracting whereas the look is more balanced on the MK1.

Got an old one coming in this week. I think it'll be just fine. How can you really go wrong?

With a diameter of 44mm, 48mm when you include the oversize crown, it stands some 17.7mm high. The sapphire crystal alone measures 5.5mm, the thickness of some dress watches. https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-bl...er-116660.html |

Great comparison!
I’m sure the wider bracelet will be an improvement....as I wear mine with the Rubber B the most, and I prefer how it feels. And yes, historically speaking, the 1st version should be more valuable in the future....but only time will tell.

The 'upgrades' between 1 and 2 don't bother me - I bought the Gen 1 black Deepsea and I didn't notice the tapered bracelet before I bought it. Only when I saw mentions of this on forums, did I think "oh yeah, so it is". Still doesn't bother me now. Regarding the extra power reserve, I wear the watch either the odd day here and there so it generally stops before I put it back on so makes no odds. If you're happy to hang on, buy the gen 2, if you want it now, buy the gen 1. Is this from an AD?

I think this was Rolex's way of introducing the JCD in Basel world since it rushed the intro on the 1st gen. I like the 1st gen.

The inscriptions in the old dial are more spaced out and I like this better.
