Hate to admit but Omega’s new releases may have bested Rolex this year

Well, I must say I was a little underwhelmed by the new offerings from Rolex. I could have fallen for the GMT Pepsi if it had a sport bracelet, but the others seriously have me scratching my head. Especially the new Daytona.

Plus, given the imposed scarcity of sport models, I am questioning Rolex’s direction, as are many here.

For grins I popped over to Omega’s site and had nearly the opposite reaction. I liked more new models than I disliked. The new Seamaster 300 is a nice evolution but the 1948 Seamaster limited editions blow me away. There may very well be one in my future.

I guess the next step in my collection may be to Omega. I hope Rolex is listening.

The beauty of Rolex is they do not change much on design. They only change gradually. That is why resale value is strong. Unlike other brands where they change designs faster than u can say enough.

respectfully disagree in terms of the 1948.

in terms of the 300 it is nice but not for me.

Omega is a poorly managed brand. Resale is atrocious. Tacky limited editions. I wish Omega would change the way the brand is managed because they can make a great watch.

I want them to do well, but my impression was the direct opposite - Rolex proved, once again, that they are king and worthy of their crown.

I do like the 1948 Seamaster - the size is right, style is right and the price is right. Well done on those.

Seamaster 300? Big yawn. The black Speedmaster looked cool, but that style feels very 5-8 years ago, ano Panerai and Hublot.

But it hard to take a brand seriously when they chose to have Presley Gerber as their brand ambassador...

Omega is especially guilty of this with their "special editions". They change a few small details (like minute and hour hands being different colors or styles) and call it a special edition. The better versions sell out near instantly and the worse ones stay on display an an AD for months or years. This is one of my reasons for leaving Omega for Rolex. I'm very glad Rolex isn't like Omega.

If their was ever a time Omega should be poaching Rolex customers, this is it. Imagine a watch dealer that actually has a lot of every model you can buy at a signifigant discount.

OK I get it that it's based on an anniversary watch but later versions were so much prettier:

Not digging the wavy dials on the new 300s. Liked the old dial better.

Rolex are only tweakinging existing designs, and this could be called lazy, but it seems enough for them for now.

I want to like Omega, and I've been looking to add one for nearly 10 years. However none of them have grabbed my attention quite enough to hand over thousands yet.

Where is my master chronometer Planet Ocean with orange ceramic liquid metal bezel and slim profile like the 2500 series. Oh, they went big thick and garish.

Which Omega Seamaster 300 you’re referring to? The Bond, CK2913 or Master 300 Master??

Omega had a watch here or there that I gave a second look but overall not in the same league as Rolex, especially this year

(maybe if the Speedy, Railmaster, and Seamaster trilogy set from last year was in the conversation, then just maybe...but even then I'd still go with Rolex)

Just sayin that the designs this year strike me more than the Rolex ones do. I too had my time with Omega and agree with all points on business models, brand recognition, long term resale, cheesy endorsements, etc...

But damn , I LIKE that 1948!!!!

I am tied to the stake so burn me mates.

I have a pile of Rolex, AP... This is the nicest watch I’ve bought in the last year. The speedmaster racing master coaxial. Ceramic bezel. Micro
Adjust. Exhibition back. Stunning in person.

If you’re not looking at Omegas, you’re selling yourself short.

Agree with the OP, and I'll pickup that new Seamaster 300 as a pleasant change. I'm hearing from a Canadian AD, maybe 2 month wait, not years. How refreshing.

Neither really did it for me this year. The 1948 is a nice piece, though. Tudor beat em both!

Beautiful white Omega chrono, Tampa.

Thanks..

It’s freaking gorgeous in person.

Also, agree on Tudor. They hit it out of the park.
