Omega is getting gimmicky.

I have this one as well it’s a beauty. I also have the Blue Moonphase, both fantastic pieces and keepers for sure. I like Omega a lot. I wasn’t as impressed this year. I didn’t like the black Apollo 8 maybe if the yellow was not there. The SMP has never appealed to me but I have four Planet Oceans. I have a lot of modern Omegas and am seriously thinking about selling 4-5 of them including a GSOTM and a DSOTM Pitch Black to have less pieces more quality over quantity. Very much thinking about adding the DSSD which was announced today. |

Well, you said it before I did! Although, I have to admit I love the new 39mm OP with black dial. I like it even better than the Explorer I. And that DeepSea with the updated case, bracelet and movement is sheer perfection.
Cheers, Carl

I Love Omega, If you don't like the range of 300 watches / variations they released this week, just wait a week and they will release 300 more*.
*Not counting special editions / limited editions / Olympic tie ins / Bond Movie tie ins........ |

Huge Omega fan.....I don't think I'm buying any of the Basel reveals for various reasons.....I think the heart was in the right place for many of these but missed the ball on a lot of key points to summarize.

This year was a bit disappointing all round. The DJ41 in steel last year was fantastic but I'm not at all a fan of the jubilee GMT. Just looks wrong. Was never a fan of the SMP 300. The 1948 looks ok but a little bland.
Tudor on the other hand nailed it. I'm hoping for more releases over the next few days from both omega and rolex but not holding my breath. I think I'm actually relieved they didn't change the Sub this year as it's on my list. |

The new-old seamaster is categorically ugly. Certainly i will have nightmares with him.

I am an omega fan, and I was quite disappointed. The new dial on the seamaster is ok I suppose, but the rest of it a bit meh. They had a tremendous Basel last year with the trilogy, so I guess it was possible this year would be flat by comparison. Rolex was ok, but I sure won’t be trading my 16710 any time soon.
The winner by a clear margin for me was Tudor. |

I like Omega, I do and I have a few rare examples in the collection, but this year I think was a huge fail for new releases from their stable. So I respectfully disagree.

I really like the new Seamaster Professional 300m...the blue one. I like the date position at 6 o'clock and really like what they do to the minutes markers.
I can't wait until it shows up at the Omega Boutique to try it and possibly getting one. |

Some amazing watches this year, but nothing from Omega that impressed me much.
Would love to be in the market for a dress watch, and I could otherwise be quite happy with that Tag chrono. All in all, though they’re not pictured, I thought Patek owned Basel (and I’m not a huge fan of Patek). |

Agree on Omega. Maybe one in my future. Given Rolex gimmicks, they will be in the doghouse for a while. You don't want my hard earned money? I'll buy something else.

Rolex had a great basel this year for a lot of people. It didn't tick any boxes for me, but the releases were not bad. Only Patek had a better year, but Rolex did well.

I thought Omega's releases were also rather anaemic
On their web site they call them "Basel world novelties" This is good for Omega Omega has done a good job of being a "master brand" even though owned by swatch. Its 8xxx and 9xxx movements are gorgeous, if somewhat nuttily over engineered. but hell they are good to look at !!! |

Agree with OP. Love the new wave dial sea master with exhibition case and wave dial. Also love the fact it’s about half the price of a sub and I should be able to buy one before my summer holiday.
I also really like the black/gold one on a rubber strap. |

Not really a fan of the seemingly constant barrage of "special editions" offered by Omega. They do make a few pieces that I appreciate but overall, I appreciate the steady, constant, reliable offerings by Rolex. I have a number of Ball watches, but once again, they seem to miss the mark for me by offering lots of models seemingly for the sake of just getting another model on the table.
