At Wempe NYC, they told me they don't even show 36mm DJs to men. "36mm is a women's watch size", they said.

36mm DJs are a big women's seller, but, of course, they also buy smaller or bigger.

Well said and solid advice right here!

With that said, my parents gave my wife a 31mm OP as a wedding gift. As much as she was floored and still loves the watch, she longs for a 36mm Datejust. She will have it sooner or later. So unless you want to buy your wife two watches, get her the one she really loves!

Dear OP

Last week I took my wife up to London and let her choose the watch she wanted. She spent about 30 minutes choosing between about 10 watches and eventually settled on a 31mm, diamond dialed, solid gold DateJust.

I expected her to choose the 26mm model, so even after nearly 45 years of marriage, I would have chosen incorrectly. It's her watch, let her choose.

Naturally I took her out for dinner afterwards to a decent restaurant and that made her day.

Best for you to do the same.

Regards

Mick

I don't know if I am fortunate or not, but my wife wouldn't thank you for any watch, never mind a Rolex. She isn't a watch person, but she does like rings.

Not too sure about what is the best model to hold value as never really let that affect my choice. I actually chose my wife's Mid-sized YM and surprised her with it. However she never really expressed that she would like a Rolex and I have a pretty good handle on what she likes. If she has said she wanted one I would have definitely let her choose it.

That said, she also like stealing my Hulk when she gets the opportunity.

My wife is and was the same, appreciates the watches, but always prefered the Michael Kors, etc. I had to do alot of convincing for this one on her 40th bday. She loves the watch and likes how it feels, but I dont see her craving any more fine brands for watches...thank god. She will stick to her shoes and purses.

Wife wants Rolex

I personally think a classic for women that always holds it's value is the TT datejust with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet!

The most prolific advice is to get what she loves despite the resale value. Women (most) don't look at a watch in terms of resale value like men do. Get her the watch she wants. I have both a 36mm DJ fluted bezel with jubilee bracelet & I find it very comfortable to wear. I also have a Sub which I love. Sometimes after wearing the Sub a few days I enjoy going back to my DJ because it's so much lighter, gives my wrist a break. So while I enjoy both, if I had to choose to keep one, even though the Sub is my grail, I would keep the DJ simply for comfort. It looks damn good too, but comfortable.
