Hi Guys

Just after your thought and opinions really

Still a bit of a Rolex novice

I am thinking of changing my current 2009 16610 Sub for one of the new models (with the ceramic bezel etc....)

Unfortunately, I cant afford to have both

What do you think????

If you think the upgrades are worth the money go for it. I am content with the 16610, for now.

Welcome to TRF.

I think it depends on which version you would rather have and whether you are willing to pay the premium required to obtain a newer watch if you so chose. In my opinion there are pluses and minuses for each version if you ask me, however I don't think it is always necessary to upgrade just to get the latest version.

Have you tried on the new 116610? what do you think?

i had the chance of deciding and went for the 116610 but there are a lot of guys preferring the older model. i guess you should try on both a decide for yourself.
i like the new look which in my opinion follows the tradition but managed to be very modern at the same time, love the lume, the beautiful ceramic bezel, the maxi dial and reckon that the bracelet itself is worth the change. it is the same old sub as always but with a twist and a touch of the modern era.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I LOVE my 16610 and would be hard pressed to drink the 'ceramic koolaid'. Go try one on and if she sings to you you'll know what to do...

I would make that trade in a heartbeat. I have both (16613 and 116610LV) and the Glidelock clasp alone is worth every penny. I also prefer the maxi dial and the solid link bracelet. Finally, I really like the dimension that the engraved ceramic bezel insert adds to the whole package.

The new Sub C is just absolutely fantastic and it is a watch that is difficult for me to fault.

It's hard to compete with the classic look of the 16610. However the new upgrades made to the Sub, make 116610 hands down a better watch.

The 116610 is a better watch technically speaking. Many prefer the older one though. All preference. Once you have the new bracelet with glidelock, it's very hard to go back to the old style.

I love the new bracelet. I can handle the maxi dial and hands. But, I cannot handle the maxi case with the fat lugs and fat crown guards.

I like the maxi dial, better for my eyes. The 116610 is a heavier watch, which could be a disadvantage for some.

My 116610 is my favorite watch of ALL time. I know the purists will balk, and to each his own, but I think the pre ceramic Subs are a notch below. Fire!!! :)

The 116610 is a better watch IMO but ultimately it's only you who can determine if the upgrades are worth the £ difference.

Not sure I would do it. I also have the 16610 and a 116610LV, I love them both equally. I just cannot get myself to go back to all ceramic as I just sold a couple. I am loving the pre ceramic models again but to each his own.

Perhaps keep your 16610 and save for the 116610LV

Tough one. Both great watches. As mentioned, I suggest trying the SubC to see if it smiles back. Only you can make that determination.

I love the LV I have...Having said that, went to an AD and held the 116610 for the first time and while I still didn't like the bigger lugs and what it did to the face, the bracelet was fantastic. Didn't try out the glidelock feature but the solid links throughout makes the bracelet way more 'solid.'

I have the SS ceramic GMTIIC and a non ceramic TT SERTI sub. The ceramic GMTIIC is heavier than my sub but still comfortable although less so than the non ceramic piece.

Have to agree quite a price hike for a slither of ceramic and new type clasp and a bit more lume but whatever floats your boat.

I have had both and now just the 16610. I prefer the less bulky look and personally I think the maxi dial dots are too big. But as many have said here you have to have tried both on before you can make a decision with all the facts. Tough choice - but a good problem to have! Good luck!
