New to forum and new to watches!

Hi,

In my adult life I’ve never really worn a watch. At first it’s because I was never that bothered (my phone always has the time) but as I’ve grown older (mid thirties now) I have started to appreciate them. I’m finally in a position to buy one and am looking at spending around £5k on a submariner.

I’ve read numerous articles about watches but I figured I’d put something on here in case any of you have any pearls of wisdom to pass on.

I’m fine with a used watch, and I understand the importance of it being serviced. Due to my inexperience I think I’d prefer to have the box and papers. I’ll also be looking to buy from a reputable firm. Is this is enough to prevent me from buying a stolen watch?

If anyone has any other advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kev

Welcome Kev
My advise would be to purchase your first from an AD , just for the piece of mind, do be aware there will probably be a long waiting list but it will be cheaper alternative than grey dealers, and the experience is much nicer (in my dealings) and you can be certain of a genuine watch no matter which brand or model you buy.

As a side note you can’t go wrong with the original Rolex sub nd which is a little over £5k from dealers new and you’ll got you name on the paperwork.

Which ever you chose good luck and share with pics when the deal is done.

Steve

Thanks, I assume AD is authorised dealer?
Thanks for the shout about a sub ND.

I’ll keep researching. There is a Goldsmiths in the new shopping centre near me that sells Rolex but I found the salesperson had too much of a ‘used car salesman’ feel about him.
