On Reddit you would be "doxed." That is, your name, location, and photo meta data would be used to find your precise identity and location, and well crafted email would go out to your AD -- possibly also to your employer -- letting them know about this moral turpitude!

For me it isn't so much the flip, it's the "incoming" followed by the flip. Good gravy that's ugly.

This still remains to be seen. Probably a better chance of flipping for much less to a TS.

Its pretty easy though, no one buy watches from people flipping for a profit, don’t pay over MSRP. Can’t really get bad at the guy for trying to make money it’s the same as the trust sellers on here, all we can do is not play the game!

It's the rhetorical deception that people are mad at more than the flip.

The OP is entitled to do what he wishes with his watch.

However, posting this thread is in extremely poor taste.

You want to sell it, that's your call. but I can't believe you honestly made this thread bragging about it, while others are patiently waiting on lists, and you simply got it to flip.
It's called capitalism get used to it

Maybe my reading comprehension may have slipped, but where did the OP say he was flipping a watch? I would like to hear his clarification.

I am adamantly opposed to profiteering. I will not buy a watch that is crazily inflated. However, I have no objections to others selling a watch they don’t wear or like. Not into someone buying a Daytona with the intent to flip for profit.

I clearly posted the link on post #6.

Yeah, you're completely right, OP didn't mention flipping at all. He just came on here bragging, flat out lying about how it 'looks good in the collection' while simultaneously creating a sales thread listing it at a profit.

I see the link at 6. That’s a no no in my book. Boo from the Union of Rolex Watch Collectors against profiteers who do not enjoy the watches.

Agreed.

“Hey everyone, look what I found out and about! Talk about luck since most of you are on waiting lists in excess of 20 months. Talk about a score! So happy for me. Now I am going to profit on this deal and make sure someone pays a hefty premium.”

I’m fine with people doing what they wish with their purchases but to start a thread about an awesome incoming and then flip it is in poor taste.

Some people’s kids....

I see the capitalism fetishists are starting to appear. They ought to read the bit in bold.

Every incoming thread on here is effectively a boast inviting validation and attention. I say that as somebody who has done it so I’m not trying to offend.

The only thing that makes those boasts acceptable is the communal love of watches and desire to share a passion, meaning it’s possible to genuinely enjoy other people’s acquisitions whilst having a good look at some nice pics.

So what happens when the boast isn’t about a watch, but cash?

This is the second one in a week. Last was a guy who posted a CHNR with an incoming thread and literally posted in classifieds the same day for 17K..... https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...highlight=chnr

I have no beef with flipping but why go through the effort/perception of being excited to get it, only to sell it for a profit to someone who really wants it? Do they really think nobody here looks in the classifieds? How clueless can someone possibly be??

We admire watches. Acquiring a watch for a quick profitable flip means that you admire money more than the watch. It’s unrealistic, but if no one paid a premium, the practice would end. I will not pay a premium for a desired watch.

The other problem with people who blatantly flipping are that it appears Rolex is starting to throw the book at ADs who are allowing this to happen. Sure it's a free market and capitalism rocks, but the guy who is making 6K off a hot watch is potentially jeopardizing his AD's license and reputation, and that has far greater consequences for people at the AD, especially if they sold to the customer and trusted them not to flip. Just because you can do it, doesn't mean that you should do it, and it ends up ruining the hobby and business for others.

Exactly, which is why you have to wonder what his AD in Newtown or elsewhere in the Bucks County area thinks.

5 years ago, a lot of watch people I know would be all about helping each other out, getting great deals, etc etc etc. Now a lot of 'newcomers' to the watch scene, are only concerned about making a profit and treating watches as some type of side business.

Good catch and well said!

The cool thing to do since you were lucky enough to obtain two of them, THEN came on here to brag about it would be to sell it to a forum member for roughly what you paid for it or a SLIGHT profit. Instead you throw it on the for the same obscene price as a gray dealer. Would love to see the mods remove the ad and you get stuck with it.
