The ones that got away...

As the journey draws to a close I got to thinking about the 2 that got away. Whilst both made way to get a grail I regret letting them go. What’s the 2 you most regret letting go?

None have got away so far because I don't let them go. Or at least I haven't let any go so far. They will get given to family or inherited. They all stand for something or commemorate something. Once I got past one watch, I had more watches than I ever realistically needed, so occasionally adding the odd one, if/when I want it and can save for it and source it, doesn't change things a whole lot for me.

the only watch i have thought about buying again is the AP diver. I also miss my IWC BP, but that was just too big so while i love it i would never buy it again.

In general though i seriously doubt there is any watch i truly regret selling as there was a reason that they went in the first place. Memories tend to over emphasize the good and you forget the bad. Its a trap

I don't really have any regrets so to speak. The moves I made were for good reason in helping with the direction I wanted to head as a collector.
If I had to choose two, I'd say my 16710 Coke GMT (my first Rolex) and my AP 15202.

I didn't sell but i passed on the following:

The SD4K for 7k GBP

The Platona for 33k GBP

TT Daytona Panda 8k GBP

Those 3 watches i really should have bought i regret letting them go ever since.

Letting go of the Dblue is my biggest regret.

All of the other watches I’ve bought sold I don’t miss. That one i do.

The one that got away for me was a SS Skydweller blue face. I actually purchased it and gave it to my brother as a Christmas present last year in a moment of madness. I am on the list now for another!

Well, that is so wonderful. How very generous of you. I hope that you'll get yours very soon. Karma!

I think now most people have money regrets over watch regrets.

I cant say what's right for you, this hobby is such a personal thing ...

Would I? Absolutely not.

I didn't flip the Dblue as much as I zigged when I should have zagged I

I sold it pre Basel 2018 in the hopes I'd either get the new 126660 or a blro. I've been shut out so far.

My tendency is to move a watch or watches because I am not wearing it or the value is high and I want something else. I don't regret any move I made but I do regret not having enough money to just buy them all and keep them all. But as long as I am dreaming that would probably not be that fun either because I would loose a lot of my passion.

A Dblue for a YMII? I may say that will come back to haunt you...or maybe not since I don’t know you!

My only watch regrets are the ones I got that really didn't sing to me or the ones I got in a moment of "buy it now," those I have let go but always at a loss.

The two that haunt me are the WG Sky-D with black dial and the DD2 with blue wave dial. I got to try each on during my days of traveling the country, and (very reluctantly) handed them back.

Oh well...I didn't exactly have the money back in those days, so it's pretty fruitless to sit around and pine about it. Doubt if I could go back in time, the result would have been any different.

Sold a 1680 a few years ago for way less than they are going for today. It was an awesome watch and i didn’t see the spike in price coming.

Lesson learned, trying to get away from selling any future watches. Working on only buying things i know that i will keep forever.

I had a 6694 that I sold for $1000 10 years ago because it was too girlie like. I sure wish I had it now.

What?!? That’s incredible. I wish I was wealthy enough to buy a nice time piece for my brothers

A friend of mine that buys and sells watches (one man operation), offered me a white dial used Nautilus 2-3 years ago for £10k.

I turned it down, said I didn't like white dials and very rarely bought used watches.

hold tight. Don't do what Rolex wants you to do and buy the same watch again

I bought my 5513 Submariner in Zürich in 1970 on a month long trip through Europe. The ironic thing is that when I went I was absolutely going to buy an Accutron Astronaut or Space View. While in Switzerland I stopped in just about every watch store I passed but they did not exist anywhere in the country. I never really looked for anything else. On the last day in the country I walked down the Bahnhofstrasse and Chronometrie Beyer was the last stop at the far end. I looked at the Submariner and fell in love with it. I wonder what my interest in watches or contents of my collection would have been if I found and bought an Accutron.

After being on the list for a bit I got tired of waiting and bought a LVc at grey prices. I sold it and immediately regretted it. AD called a few days later with an LVc for me. Got completely bailed out on that mistake.

2000 breitling chronomat, black with silver subdials. Fantastic proportions, like 39mm and tough as nails. 2000 iwc Portuguese, and 2001 chopard Mille miglia, titanium awesome dials, great proportions. Miss them.
