[QUOTE=subtona;3025043]hope you came out unscathed!
that sucks about watch, and that is criminal about price to fix it.... i am now sure i will never own a ceramic anything, this incident has cinched it, long live the $95 aluminum bezel. Had a friend with a ceramic wife, traded her for an aluminum one. Saved a ton of money on repairs...... |

I is my understanding that the ceramic insert can not be replaced without replacing the entire bezel. I do not believe that they will sell the ceramic insert by itself.

Not only does Rolex charge high for replacement parts, you don`t even get to keep the replaced part,it`s exchange only.
I couldn`t do it for $2100,thats just too much. |

Here is my scratched bezel. It looks like a smudge but you can feel it etched into the ceramic. I think I will start the scratched bezel owners club.

No my friend this is my battle scar from the wreck. The hardware in my arm is my keep sake. The scratced bezel is my tears every time I look at it.

You are fortunate to be alive. The scratch on your bezel is minor by comparison. I agree- start the scratched ceramic bezel club and call it a day. And wear your watch in good health my friend.

Ausome advice. As soon as my radial nerve heals more and I have more control of my right hand I will be all over that. Thanks.

Is the $2,100 estimate for an entire new middle case and bezel ring & insert?

Is this something that an insurance claim would cover?
I would try to buff it myself and accept the remaining scars ... $2100 would be tough to swallow |

wicked scar, both on you and the watch. glad to know you're recovering well. take care and stay safe out there.
i wouldn't try to buff out the scratch with a dremel, it might make things worse. just my two cents. |

Clark, I'm sorry to hear of your ordeal and the damage to you and your watch. I trust you are mending well? I would also leave the watch as is as a testament to the strength and toughness of Rolex watches!!!

Sorry about your wreck. My tired eyes can make that scratch go away for $2100.00. Good Luck.

According to this Rolex.com page the ceramic bezel insert is "virtually scratch-proof".
http://www.rolex.com/en#/world-of-ro.../ceramic-bezel IIRC doesn't the GMT IIc advert report it as "scratch-proof"? 17th picture down on this thread (thanks MK25toLife) http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=214722 |

Looks more like missing material than a scratch. I thing you broke the surface of the ceramic. It's not completely invincible after all.

Glad to see your alive! I've been down hard before, luckily not wearing any watch....just leather, jeans, and an Arai helmet that saved me (huge chunk out of the top....would have been my skull).
I would suggest having insurance if you wear your watch daily...it's cheap when you consider something like this happening. I would not advise trying to remove the divot, it would be likely you would make it more noticeable by widening it...I would leave it. |

when I went down on my bike the watch was insured on my home owners policy. Called my carrier and off went watch, came back like new. and the service was covered.

Are you sure it's grained into the ceramic itself and not just the residue of whatever your watch hit? I had something similar happen with a sapphire crystal I managed to scrape it off with a knife but it was really ground on. It's a pretty cool battle scar if it is a scratch. Shows how tough Subs are when the watch is otherwise perfect.
Couldn't a jeweller polish it out? I'm thinking it would be like polishing gemstones. It still looks pretty black but minus the shine.

I'm not sure how I would feel about it if it were my watch. If it were just a matter of a $100 aluminum bezel insert, I would get it fixed in a heart beat.
$2100 is pretty steep, but if that's what it cost to put back the way you bought it and you can't live with it, then I guess there really isn't a choice. A man has to do what a man has to do, as they say.
