William Shatner’s Rolex Sub
I ran across this print out I had saved from 2002. I thought you guys would find this interesting.
In Oct 2002 I started to purchase William Shatner’s 1680 Red Dial Sub from a Sothebys.com auction. But I passed on it. I didn't care for the band. As I remember when I was looking at the second page photos of the band which showed it had the typical folded links for this vintage but it did not have the riveted side plates that you would normally see. Although I have seen a few Rolex subs without this. I can remember seeing a few of the older Tudor subs back in the day that had folded bands without the side plates but with the Rolex stamped clasp. I was unable to find the 2nd page with the band photos and other info. |

you made the right decision as with that cheap plastic crystal and crappy folded band i would pass on the thing too and hold out for a newer watch.

Shatner is Canadian I believe. Shows that our friends up North have good taste in watches.

true and altho we are having fun in this thread, truth be told at that time the OP made the right choice to back out of bidding as that selling price back in 2002 would have been wayyy more than most of us would have paid for that watch. if we only knew

That is true, the value of this Sub would really be up there now. I also passed on a chance to purchase one of the original prop Subs used in the James Bond movie live and let die. It too had a very high price on it for what it was at the time. I didn't purchase it because it had no movement but it did have the modified working saw bezel. Live and Learn LoL
