Milgauss vs. GMTIIc
Hey guys... My wife and I just gave birth to our very first child. A precious baby girl!!! With our precious package here and my wife getting her push present it's now time for my present.
I was thinking of an Omega PO 8500. But, I've heard they don't hold value like the Rolex. I'm trying to decide bw the Milgauss with green crystal or the GMTIIc. The only thing I don't like is green hand of GMTIIC. Is it possible to get an older GMTII and have an updated ceramic bezel put on it. What would you do the Milgauss or the GMTII? P.S. the watch would be a daily wearer and not have a specific use. Thanks guys/ girls |

Welcome and Congrats on the little one! They are both great watches but I am biased towards the GMT. Also, it is not possible to put a ceramic bezel on a older GMT. Good luck on your search!

The Milgauss GV.
I'm biased though. But, IMHO it's by far a better looking watch if I had to chose between the two. Oh, and congrats on the new addition to your family! |

Yes the aluminum insert can be scratched. Most things can and will. However if and when it becomes unsightly, it cost very little to replace it compared to the Ceramic insert. About $100. Besides just because it can be scratched doesn't mean yours will be.
One reason for Rolex said they were going to the Ceramic insert was that they would not scratch as easy. However if you were ever to crack that insert it would cost quite a bit more to replace it.

Congratulations on that birth, may she bring you a lot of joy and happiness!
Given your opinion and preferences, I would lean towards the GV. I personally prefer the GMT but there's no need for you to get it if you don't use its complication and mostly if you don't like its green hand.

Which one of those two watches tend to be more expensive? Probably gonna get preowned. Who are the more trusted sellers here?

you really do need to see both watches in the flesh...they both wear differently and the cases differ too among other things. Whatever you do I'd say don't make any decision based on pictures.
Take your time, don't rule out the gmt c either, it feels a whole lot different from the older one. Not saying that the new changes are necessarily better. Depends on what you are used to and what you like. good luck and congrats with the baby. Last edited by Alsey; 26 January 2012 at 11:16 PM.. Reason: spelling |

First off, congrats on the birth of your daughter.
I have the GMT and the non-GV black Milgauss and love them both. The Milgauss is my dress watch which I will almost always wear with suits, but I also wear if with jeans occasionally. However I consider the GV verison less dressy, more for every day wear. The GMT is very practical. It's a great daily wearer, and awesome to travel with. As for the green, initially I preferred the red hand, but have come to love the green instead. A little touch of colour that only you know is there. It blends in nicely to the dial so is not a distraction, but easy to see when looking for it. I wouldn't mind the Omega either, but personally I wanted a Rolex first. |

Congrats ... you might consider a Sub (ceramic) or new 42 EXP II. I offer those because the PCLs are scratch magnets and now with a little one, you may want something that you can wear without worrying about scratching it!

I'd go with the GMT, too. I also don't like the green hand, so I would go for a pre-owned. There are many for sale here. And you can always get the bezel changed if you ever get it scratched.

If you want the popular girl at the party get the GMT. If you want the life of the party then get the Milgauss GV.

I go for the GMT (either ceramic or non) over the GV. Good luck and congrats on the new baby girl.

Congratulations to you both on the birth of your little girl.
I have four. Congratulations on your Rolex choices. I have two. A GV and the GMT II TTc. They are two of the best models that Rolex makes - there is no wrong decision.

Congrats on the baby girl.
I have a baby myself.. an Omega PO.. She's about 3 years old. The brand new one is unreal. I tried it on at the Omega and it is honestly amazing. I am also in the market for a Rolex. I'm deciding between the GV and the new Explorerii. I'm 75% with the GV though. Are you a flashy kinda guy? If so, the GV is the watch for you. The GMT is a little more ordinary imo. Both can be worn as everyday watches, but depends what you want. Something more sporty (GMT) or a little less sporty and more flashy (GV) How many people do you know with a GV? I'd go with the GV. Hope this helps. |

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on the birth of your daughter. I trust that she and your wife are doing well. Either watch would be very nice to have and own so you can't go wrong. I have the older GMT II with the Pepsi(blue/red) bezel insert and that watch is versatile. It has the red 24 hour hand and you can exchange the insert for the coke(red/black) style or the black one. You can also buy the Jubilee bracelet to switch up for a change and you can buy Nato straps for a different look as well. There are many trusted sellers here on TRF so check the For Sale sub section for their listings!!!

Welcome and congrats on the new addition!
Personally, the green hand and bezel font of the GMTIIc don't do it for me, so I'd take the GV. Both are great choices. Good luck with the decision! Maybe take your time a bit, since the sleepless night might cloud your decision in the short-term. |

Congratulations for the new baby! Between the Millgauss and GMT, one thing to consider is no date on the Millgauss. Maybe not a big deal but something to weigh before the decision!

Have you looked at these watches at an AD ?
Between those two I'd take the Milgauss. But you should look at the new PO 8500 at an AD. Technically it is superior to both the rolexes and it is better built too. As far as keeping value, only time will tell ( pun intended ). I don't really care about my watches keeping value, they were never meant to be an investment. |

Manu, I actually tried on the PO 8500 and really liked it. It's one that's in the running. I also saw a GMT Coke for the first time and it's growing on me. I have to try the Rolexes on soon and compare. Thanks
