Opinions on first Rolex please
I'm finally ready to join the Rolex club and would love your thoughts on the following. I've decided on the Submariner 16613 (used) in either the blue dial or the black dial. I've been "strongly" leaning towards the blue but wanted your thoughts on my choice.
FWIW, I settled on the Sub due to its versatility in being either a "sports" watch or a luxury watch that I can wear to work/dress up. I appreciate your opinions on this. BTW, this site is fantastic for all things Rolex! |

Either one is classy but I prefer the blue. You win either way.

I really don't think you can go wrong with either. They are both classic. If you are "strongly" leaning towards the blue, then go for it!

Both are really nice, I picked up a 116613 blue dial last week so you know my choice.

I love my bluesy. Can't wait to get it back from RSC. 1st servicing in the 10 years I've had it.
Although... won't you be extremely overdressed wearing that around Clemson? Go Cocks! |

Welcome to TRF, I prefer black but the blue is indeed very nice and a classic! Hope to see some pictures soon.

Funny guy. We've recently had the worst spell against you guys in my lifetime. Time for things to get back to normal.
Thanks for the response though. Go Tigers! |

I really prefer the blue dial - much more arresting than the black.

Welcome! Either one is a great choice. It comes down which one you like more. The 16613 is terrific! Good luck with your selection.

I really hope you got the opportunity to hold and try them both on before you make a decision! As others have stated you can't go wrong either way but you don't want to hastily acquire and then have buyers remorse! Congrats, best of luck and welcome to the jungle!

I went to a local AD and tried a few on the other day. I actually stood there thinking that I'd love to have about 12 of the 15 she pulled from the case! Just so many great looking watches from Rolex.
I was drawn to the blue but just wanted to reassure myself that I could also dress the blue up and wear it to more formal occasions. I plan to get another (perhaps Datejust) with a more neutral dial (maybe white) down the road, hopefully within the next six months. |

With your last sentence you will have 12 in no time! Horology is a fun hobby! The minute you get one there will be another to follow
