Went to the Breitling AD today

I was just curious about breitling watches and decided to go to the AD today. I saw some breitling watches and tried on the Breitling emergency. It's certainly a unique watch because of it's functionality. I also had a look at some other watches like the aerospace and the chrono avenger M1. From all the watches that i tried on i liked the look of the chrono avenger M1. On the other hand there is still one thing that i would like to mention but please breitling owners and fans don't get me wrong. Allthough breitling watches may look fine and really functional i don't know why they gave me an impression of a cheap watch. I was comparing the overall build quality of some breitlings with my GMT II C. I know that the GMT II C is twice as expensive but i had a look at some more expensive breitling watches. The thing that shocked me a bit about breitling watches was the cheap feeling of the bracelet and the sound of it. It was my first time that i tried on breitling watches so please don't get me wrong. I would like to know what breitling fans and owners think about it. Thanks for reading

Hey Velitsko!

I owned a Breitling for while as well. I personally don't think they are 'cheaply made' and the bracelet I had on the model was every bit as good as the oyster bracelet on my SD...

The model I had was a Colt which had a a superquartz movement (very accurate). I found the watch to be well made and without starting a war here, I rated it better than the PO I had, but as you say, the Rolex definately has the edge in terms of quality finish and should do for its price, proving you only get what you pay for.

Cheers
Steve

I think that one at the AD. I don't remember though cause i can't remember all the names. The polished bracelet indeed looks nice.

Polished bracelets are a hassle for sure. I am over protective with the polished center links of my watch. I am always cautious when wearing it.

When I bought my last watch, I too was looking at Breitling. I was not crazy about their bracelets just for the fact the watches I was looking at were huge( Bentley's) and I wanted a strap on what ever I bought.

Still overall I thought their fit and finish was very good and did not seem cheap at all, even compaired to Rolex.

The emergency you tried on probably had a titanium bracelet. So thats why it probably felt lighter!

They had 2 of them. I tried both of them the one had a yellow dial and the other one had a black dial. The yellow dial was not bad at all

Breitlings are out for me because, if I remember correctly, they run too large and tend to be a bit busy for me.

Frostie, yep, the M1 is Titanium and it is superlight. Coupled with the size of, I would understand your conclusion. However, Breitling fit and finish are excellent on all their watches.

Were you able to take a look at the Skyland? That one is all SS.

Usually heft signifies a solid watch, that's how all is perceived.

Glad you went a visited a Breitling AD!

Check out the Chronomat Evolution on SS Bracelet and the Bentley line. The fit and finish are every bit as good as on a Rolex.

Breitling unfortunately do make some lower end models that bring the average brand quality down, but there are some gems there. The Chrono Evo is my favorite Chrono of all time.

Frostie-Are you hitting all the watch shops and rubbing your new purchase in their faces?? I hope you have started to wear it and not just look at it. LOL. I bought an Emergency about 6 months ago and I love it. BTW, the yellow is very hard to come by and it is considered very desirable/collectable by the Emergency folks. As for the other Breitling models, I find them "delicate". I don't know if I would wear any other model than the E. I guess I love my rugged Subs too much.

Of course i am wearing my watch my friend. I gave a promise to myself yesterday at my birthday party that i will wear and enjoy my watch every day no matter what. I didnt knew much about these watch companies so that's why i went for a visit and wanted to have a look at their watches. Thanks for the info about the yellow dial breitling.

Have you noticed how much better you are treated when you walk in and are already wearing a Rolex. Instant credability and much better service. I have, anyway. They know you aren't another lookie-loo.

I did notice that. I remember the first time i went to the AD when buying my rolex. The guy thought that i was a joke and probably he said to himself ok : (i will give him the watch to have a look so that i can get rid of him) . Next day when i became serious about the purchase he treated my much better. And this is happening because of my age but it doesn't matter at all. A rolex is indeed an instant credability.

The GMT II ceramic in stainless and the stainless Daytona's are my current Rolex favorites. They are very sweet watches.

I also believe Breitling makes a very high quality product as well. Here is mine....

breitling is a great watch. right up there with rolex. they are not as strict as rolex and breitling does make a couple low cost watches compared to rolex and they also do not hold their value as good as Rolex, but they are great watches. very solid, keep great time, they have ETA move and they are just all around sharp. The quality of breitling is right there with rolex... It's always been said, Rolex makes a great diving watch and Breitling makes a great flight watch. John Travolta swear's by breitling. In the movie sword fish you can catch john wearing a SS submariner. In the movie he plays a very rich and powerful guy. He can have any watch he wants and the fact he chose a SS sub says a lot. :)

John Travolta is "Mr. Breitling". He is in most of the print AD's. In that movie, he plays a villain and terrorist. I wonder if him being a criminal and wearing a Rolex is a subtle jab at the Rolex community.

I like Breitlings, but the watches are generally too large on my wrist. Rolex and Omega SMP fit me better.
