First foray into affordable vintage - PIC HEAVY

I'd love a Rolex 1655 or a 5513 someday in the future. Even a sweet Tudor Sub with a rose on the dial would be nice, but right now I'm dipping my toes into the vintage world on a lighter note.

I found by local Craigslist a really clean Alsta Nautograph diver from the 60s that I decided was to be my "affordable" birth year watch and my first "dive" (pun intended) into the vintage world.

The watch is better than anticipated from the terrible craigslist pictures. The dial is clean and the hands and markers have a nice and yet clean patina that is absolutely beautiful. The watch case has only the most minor of scratches and the plexi crystal was in good shape (Love the look... now I know why they say plexi is sexy). Once I took the watch home and cleaned it up, the case shined and the plexi buffed out perfectly.

I typically don't care for engraved casebacks, but in this "case" (pun intended again), the rear engraving dates the watch - a real plus since these can typically only be dated within a few years by model. Although I was born in 1966 and this was sold in 1967, I can believe that this was assembled in 66 and sold in 67. At least for the $100 I paid, I will suspend belief and make it so.

This Alsta may be small by today's standards, but it still doesn't look half bad on my 8" wrist. Now if I can only find a 1655 Explorer or a 1966 5513 Sub on Craigslist for $100 too!

Whatcha think TRF? A good find? A great first to dip my feet in the vintage pool?

I think you have to find out who Ron and sandy were before buying.

That would be great to learn!

I got the watch from the second owner who had this for about ten years and rarely wore it. It would certainly be interesting to find out who the original owner was, but it's very possible he's no longer with us considering this was sold almost fifty years ago. Either way, the engraving helps date the watch properly.

I check Craigslist now and then, but I never see anything unique and cool like that watch...!

My username is tudo66 in reference to my 1966 tudor 7928.

Not sure what you mean but it's 35.5mm wide without the crown and has 18mm lugs
