I don't know diddly..
about the intricate details of Rolex, the different models and values. But I do know people on here do. So here's my story/question. In about 1992 a family friend who lived on a boat in Miami gave me his Rolex GMT, vintage mid-60's. Shortly thereafter I took it to Rolex in NYC to get it serviced. They asked if I wanted to change the hands and dial. As they were discolored (greenish) I did. I have the old dial and hands and they seem to me to be what is called "tropical" by you aficionados. I recently brought the watch (with the new hands and dial) to get service. The jeweler offered me 5k for the watch but I declined. Afterwords I looked at the old dial and realized it was "tropical". So I'm wondering - is this watch particularly valuable with the old hands and dial? Any insight appreciated.

Any photos? Tropical encompasses a wide variety of colors/conditions. Best to see some photos before ascribing value to the hands and dial.

It's nice that Rolex returned the old parts. As mentioned above, value will depend on condition, so photos are needed.
