the lume dot should be replaced with an original tritium pearl...I have a few left ,just pm me..and in my opinion it would be best just to replace the crystal unless you have polished a few before..I have a couple tropics for it as well..I love the vintage rolex so just get ahold of me and we will get it squared away.
nice find my friend..!

Amazing dial. If Steve has a pearl for the insert don't think twice.

Nice. That's about the only thing I would do to this watch. I love the scratches on the insert/case...not too bad IMO and really sets it apart as a TRUE vintage Sub. Great find...congrats!

Wow! Really nice find! Personally, I would add the pearl, replace the crystal with a new tropic, just to make sure the watch is water tight, and wear it as is. Forget the polish!
Again, congrats on a superb find.

Looks great. I would also invest in a sympathetic mechanical overhaul. My choice would be Bob Ridley at Watchmakers International.

By the way, I believe this is one of the last of the radium dials, so even a tritium pearl (unless quite patina'ed) might look out of place here.

Pearl

Here she is with NOS replacement pearl, (thanks Steve) Unfortunately the edges of the hole and surroundings are damaged so it looks a little rough still! Never the less, it's an improvement I think.

Thanks Denny, it was a great find and I am hoping to get back together with the guy and take a few photo's and get a bit of a life story out of him, he was a lovely old character and I know in his younger days he did use the watch as a tool diving watch, he might even have some good old album dive photos from those days too, fingers crossed.........watch this space

Just a heads up, I shall be listing quite a few of my watches for sale including this beauty in the next couple of weeks. What with COVID and a recent stroke I have drifted apart from my watch collecting and so need to cash them in to pay for other things I need in my retirement.
I hope I am not breaking any rules mentioning this on here
Thanks
phil

I hope you have a full recovery. As I lay here in a hospital bed after a brain hemorrhage on Wednesday, I am reevaluating things as well. I’m having a brain scan on Monday and we’ll go from there. Otherwise fit and healthy 56 years old and a brain hemorrhage does not make one feel invincible. I hope you’re keeping one fun piece for your retirement!

Thanks Roadie, that’s exactly what I had, a brain hemorrhage and I am 75 in March. It happened back in April last year and while we were holidaying in Tasmania. I was in a van in a trailer park and rushed into a local hospital where I was taken good care of despite there being a ward full of Carona virus victims that came off a cruise ship visiting Hobart. LuckilyI had a quick turn around and avoided that bug thank god but had to go into lockdown for a couple of weeks. I have a great life partner who took care of me during this chaotic time.
Tasmania is a great place to be locked down in and I have spent hours of walking up mountains, along miles of great rugged coastline and have been given a great second chance of life with good fish diet (tons of it down here) with a little wine and no more beer
