Favorite 42mm model?

Thinking about adding a 42mm Panerai to the collection. What would you all recommend? I’d like something a little more rugged (using that term very broadly) as I currently have a DJ41 that’s a little more dressy (also using that term very broadly).

My favorite would probably have to be the 682, and a close second would be the 683.

Highly recommend the 42 Sub line.

Would the 42mm sub line be too big for a 6.25-6.5” wrist?

6.5” wrist here and the 42mm sub fits me great! I wouldn’t want to go any bigger, especially for a daily wear timepiece.

I tried on the 683 and 973 (the 42mm sub with both ceramic and non ceramic bezels). I need an XS strap that the AD is ordering before I make my final decision. It’s right on the cusp of being too big. Really hoping it fits on the XS strap.

I have a 7 inch wrist and the 42mm 973 sub fits great.

I haven’t been wearing it much of late but it is a great watch that meets your criteria, so I recommend it.

Good luck with the hunt, post pics after you pick one!

What reference number is that?

The pictures aren't fully representative of how the watch sits on my wrist because the strap was substantially too big but here are the pictures for reference. Panerai sells tons of XS rubber straps for this model so I'm hopeful that the watch will fit (albeit be as large as I can go) once we have the XS strap on.

Really like the watch. I think I'd get the black strap and maybe even the bright blue strap to bring out the blue in the dial.

Here's the 973 from a little farther away. You can see the lugs aren't hanging over my wrist:

Hey neighbor. Which AD?

They both look great on you. I am partial to the ceramic bezel. It is very unique, looks cool and is also scratch resistant.

I purchased an XS strap, but it wasn’t a great fit. There was barely any tail sticking out of the keeper with the XS. I mixed and matched for the perfect fit (XS on top and regular on bottom). I wear it on the second to last hole and there is some tailing sticking out.

AD has stated that they’re willing to work with me to get me the most competitive price they can and that they’ll work to stay within my budget. That said, what kind of discount can I expect? I’d like 20%. I’d likely buy right now for 20% discount.

Between those two I would go 683. 20% off would be a great deal. I’d be surprised if you can get it though.

So I got kind of “lucky” in a sense.
Purchased one of the last of 3 in the States. I knew it was a special edition released in September but because of Covid and perhaps a slight lack of enthusiasm of this exact piece, I was about to work a modest discount plus a free strap. No complaints here. It’s beautiful and a keeper.

Had the 1055 prior but this e-commerce watch is more special and handsome than the green 1055 (to me).
