Tudor 7928 project incoming

Needs dial restoration, proper insert, undented caseback, and a bracelet (which one?)...
what would you do?

What year is it? This impacts the correct type of insert to use.

I would leave the rest alone. Dial is cool. Caseback you can’t see. I would
Put money into cleaning the fef390 inside. The parts are not easy to find if it breaks.

uhoh I thought the 390 was very common to source...
can't see the caseback but is there a risk of the movement dragging against it?

I would just leave it as it is unless you are very particular about the bezel and back case. Dial has nice character.

If it keeps decent time, I would leave the movement alone I guess. I have owned one 390 and didn’t service it. From what others posted it has a part (pinion for the rotor maybe?). I owned a 64 case and back and I couldn’t find a nice dial and hands to put together a complete watch. The dial you have is very nice. I don’t think the dent will be an issue. Did you open it up and look at the 390? The subs have a nickel finish while the princes were brass.

As long as there is clearance between the Caseback and the router, leave the caseback alone.

Watch should have a MK2 Long 5 insert

Anything 7016/0 SPCG and earlier, including all 7928 models, have a Long 5 MK2 - except for 1959 Square / Eagle which can have a Red Triangle Long 5 and 63 Skinny 40

Redmond, what year do the long 5s phase out? 1967?
Op, was this a big dollar purchas, or was it reasonably priced? Nice watch

Last year of the Long 5 was 1968. When you see a Rose Big Bubble Semi Pointed Crown Guard it should have a Long 5. When you see a 68 or later Snowflake (either color) or a 740K Shield, it is a MK3. So if you see IV.68 in the caseback, it should be a MK3

A long 5 will not be cheap, I think I'll wear it as is until I get a few scrapes on it.
It was an ok deal I guess @ 8.5k, the prices are just insane on tudor/rolex subs.
I think back a few years ago, and wonder why did I sell my snowflake?

Nice watch, I sort of think if you invest too much into it, you would have been better off upping the budget initially. Maybe service and enjoy as is?

I have a nice one coming up soon. Chapterring, Silver Print, Long 5, Papers, Box - condition wise better than that one.
