Caught another Rolex 1655

I got a call from my dealer who offered a first owner Rolex Explorer ll 1655. The watch he said has been in storage for 20 years but the picture sent was not so clear. However, the price was more than reasonable so i decided to buy it. When i finally got the watch, it was in very good condition but needed cleaning so i sent it to my watchmaker who detailed the watch and overhauled the movement. Below are pictures of the Explorer ll after it came back from the spa.

This is my other 1655. When the time comes, both will go to my two sons.

Yes and the watch value has been appreciating too, unlike a few years ago when it was stagnant.

I'm always jealous of your watches! amazing.

Being meaning to ask you, i'm surprised there are that many solid rolex vintages coming out of Phillipines - am I just ignorant (ie., lots of nice watches there) or are you seeing some movement from other SEA countries landing at your dealers / networks?

The thing I like most about this reference is how unconventional the design is. Rolex just wouldn’t take that kind of risk these days.

Congratulations. It’s a nice example!

Exactly. It would be a Tudor I bet.

Congrats! No other design like this. So funky and ‘70s. I miss mine.

Mostly of the watches i bought were locally sourced but some dealers have been bringing watches from neighboring asian countries but not many vintage pieces.

Yes its very unique and out of the box as far as Rolex dials are concerned. I remember it was a hot item in the early 90s but somehow it became forgotten for a while until recently.

I love the 1655, that's when Rolex was taking more risk with exotic dial like this one and the Paul Newman's.
Now they leave the experiments to Tudor, like with the new P01...
