I’m hoping this is the case. He seems like a money man so a knock off rolex I don’t think would fit his bill but you never know

I got an older Rolex box it’s really small. He’s about 89 and the papers might be with his day date papers and watch but that’s in a safety deposit box in a city bank.

Not sure what anyone can tell from that poor image.

Get it and take it to a jeweler that can authenticate it if you really want it.

I would have already passed

100% avoid. Bad shape, dubious origin and model that is vastly outclassed by the new iterations.

Pass. It doesn’t look genuine on many levels to me.

The missing cyclops on a sapphire crystal means nothing. They’re easily chinked off by a watchmaker with a careful hammer tap.

Watch looks fine (genuine). Just "well loved", going by the wear on the bezel/insert/winding crown. Crystal cyclops was removed at some point, but that isn't uncommon.

Price would dictate my level of interest here. If priced aggressively enough (based on condition), I'd consider it. YMMV there of course.

If you do move forward on it, I'd definitely pop the back. Mainly to check for case/case-back corrosion, and also to confirm that all looks OK with the movement and to see the last service date.
If that can't be confirmed (or is past the service window), I'd factor a service into the purchase price as well.

Bracelet stretch/wear on an older TT would be a concern as well.

It’s got some stretch. The price was $5,500. His words were this price cause he’s seen the other two I have and can tell I stay busy. I’m gonna bring it to a jeweler just after work slows down.

I’d say be in the more $4500 range as it needs quite a bit of work. That’s only me though ymmv.

Your mileage may vary.

It may not even be worth $4500. I just have a soft spot for 16613lb’s.

Seriously? One pic and you're making that statement? NO. Not saying it isn't real, but come on- this could easily be a craptastic Mexican vacation purchase. More pics- better yet- go to an AD.

Yes, seriously. If you've been around the block a few times, you learn to recognize/identify many things (that others might not, and/or miss). So, it comes down to the totality of evidence, as it were...

The fact that you think it could "easily be a craptastic Mexican vacation purchase" speaks to your lack of experience on the subject. But, you do you...

If they can’t be found, I personally wouldn’t let that deter me from buying the watch. Wear it like the old guy did, beat the hell out of it, enjoy it.

IMO that’s the only way a watch should live.

I’m still very busy with work. The Rolex AD is 45 mins from me. I’m gonna swing by to get it sized when I slow down. I did see the old man and he told me he had a watch smith knock off the cyclops which eased my anxiety.
