they're making some of the workboots in Asia. this model says made in Vietnam, some made in Cambodia, others still made in USA

if you click the question mark next to origin, it says they make "over 60%" of their products in USA

For their price range the Iron Rangers are a really great boot. Better made than Wolverine 1Ks for sure. However depending on what your looking for and more importantly what your willing to pay there are a number of really great options out there but it all depends on what your willing to spend and what you are looking for.

Have worn many pairs of Rigger RW's, we were issued with them on site, in the 1970's. Comfy and tough.

Wear mostly Timberland - Goretex boots and moc's......good quality.

Not sure what you guys use, but this stuff is awesome!!

https://www.amazon.com/Obenaufs-Leat...;s+wax+&sr=8-4

Really unnecessary for most purposes. Bick4 a leather conditioner is something I use on all my shoes and boots from everything from Redwing to Edward Green and John Lobb.

I use that on my Wolverine 1000 miles. I'm actually not sure if it's ideal. it's the only thing i have tried. But it seems to keep them conditioned very well.

Obenaufs LP is the kind of stuff you use if your going to get your boots extremely wet like wading in a creek and such, but Bick4 works just fine for normal circumstances. Obenaufs LP really is overdoing it for most purposes.

Bought a pair of RW steel toe work boots. Could not walk in them, very painful.
Now using cheap boots with glued soles and no more feet that hurt.

Red Wing Boots are notorious for a bad break-in period. There are ways to mitigate it but they can be painful after which they fit like a glove.

A bit of research and you should have been able to avoid this. I knew this going in but still chose to go this route. I find the more informed I am the happier I am with the results. The internet makes this much easier.

However although this is true for Redwing boots this is not true for most leather shoes or boots. I have many shoes and boots from numerous shoemakers which fit like a glove from day 1.

Love wolverine 1000 miles. Especially since there was not much of break in period. Have been itching to try a pair of Vibergs, but can't justify the price.

Truman Boot Co and White Boots are also good options which although more than Redwing are less than Viberg.

I must be one of the lucky few who hardly had any pain during the break in period of my iron rangers.
Had a lot more pain breaking in my two pairs of Crockett & Jones.

From time to time I"ll hear from people like you who haven't, but it is much more common that people actually do. I have three pairs of boots and a few pairs of Crockett and Jones shoes and never had an issue. I think you are the first person I have read where they have had an issue with break in. I imagine there might be others but really it is much more common that people have an issue with Redwing boots. I have much more snug fitting shoes and boots from Edward Green and Gaziano and Girling and from the very first wear they fit just like a glove. I've actually have never experienced any problems with any other like I have from Redwing. It took me about two weeks each and some very sore feet before I was able to break in both pair of my Redwing boots.

Rancourt makes a similar boot as well. Personally at that price point I find something from Truman Boot Co more appealing. I think it has more to do with the different leathers they work with and the various options you can get because you can get them made to order as well.

I think I’ve shared this story before but I bought my iron rangers in NYC and tried to walk from Brooklyn to soho the first day because you know, I’m an idiot.

I bought sneakers at the first store I stumbled across. You’d think they had sandpaper in the heel lol

No doubt they are nice and I do have a pair of their shoes already and wear them quite often. I'm just going off of MSRP. By the way they are just a reseller and not a shoemaker. But do understand I already have many boots already, so if it were my choice to get another pair of boots I would chose something from Truman over Oakstreet Bootmakers even if it were not at the same price point because Truman appeals to me more.

If all you felt was sand paper you were lucky indeed. I spent most of my time during the my first two weeks sitting down and I still can't even describe the pain. This was actually after wearing them for an hour at a time for four days while sitting down. Then and only then did I attempt to wear them for an entire day. I can't even imagine what it would have been like trying to walk in them very far during the first two weeks let alone the first day. I have no intention of ever breaking my feet in again for another pair of Redwing Boots. What I have now works fine but I have no interest in doing it again.

What do you mean they’re a reseller? They have their own factory.

If they do then I would be mistaken, but that is not my understanding. Either way as I said I have a pair of Oakstreet Bootmakers shoes and can confirm I am happy with the product. I purchased it and it serves me well. I can highly recommend them. However, for their MSRP price point the fact is something from Truman appeals to me much more. I would be willing to pay a bit more if I had to. You can not only get something in various different leathers but you also can get something with a few different options. Truman makes a more appealing boot to me.

Yeah all good on the Truman, understood.

But OSB most certainly has their own factory out of the US, and only uses hides from a couple US factories, France and England. They definitely don’t outsource their work and operate as a store front. They’re solid US made boots. They even offer recrafting services

Like I said, I could be mistaken.

Personally I like to know as many of my options before making a choice. I'm just trying to make other people aware of some of them as well. Although my Redwings and Wolverines serve me well had I known in the beginning more of what all was available I'm pretty sure I would have made other choices. However part of the journey was also figuring out what worked best for me. As a result however I try to look longer and harder before committing to other purchases as a result. I'm willing to spend a bit more for what I consider what is worth it to me. To be honest if I were to even consider a new boot in this same style I would get another pair from Viberg. But as it stands I have no desire to get another pair.
