Fake Box? From very reputable grey seller.

Hey All,

I purchased a DJ2 about a month ago from a very reputable Grey Market brick-and-mortar store down here in South Florida; I’d prefer not to share the business name until I give them a chance to talk with me.

For some reason I just couldn’t get the paranoia out of my head, despite them being a Mondani Web, Chrono24 and eBay Trusted Seller.

To cut to the chase, I’ve inspected the watch tirelessly, the warranty card under black light, and finally, tonight, as my paranoia lingered: the box.

See photos below. Compared to guides I’ve seen online it certainly seems fake. Main issue being the crown logo came right off with just a slight touch with the fingernail.

If the box is indeed fake, pics of watch and card will be soon to follow.

Can you post a picture of the inner lid “ROLEX” emblem?

Many times these greys get watches without boxes and just give you a box they have lying around.

The color doesn’t look right to me. Looks a little darker?

Fellow Floridian, these suspense threads are tiring. Can you let us know what the whole problem is? Do you suspect fake box, watch, warranty, paperwork?

Fake box doesn’t necessarily mean fake watch/card.

Hey there,

Watch looks perfect as far as I can see, but I’m no expert. I’ve read a ton on here and it matches all quality/authenticity checkpoints from what I can see.

Paperwork being from Venezuela with no name filled out for purchaser made me a bit weary, but with the government situation there and ties with Miami I figured it’s probably not so odd that the purchaser wouldn’t want their name listed when the watch was destined for export.

Yes, I know this is true. The seller already offered to give me a new box, but I still want full answers.

As long as the watch and cards are real, and the price was right, who cares?! You can source a genuine box on eBay, if it’s that important to you.

Cushion and inner-tray seem fine as well…. Just the “wave” pattern and the crown falling off has me thrown.

Seller already offered to give me a new box if I stop by their store. I guess the possibility of the box being fake has be doubting authenticity of the watch — I know a bit extreme, but I’m overly anxious.

From everything you posted I see no issue with the box. Except the logo coming off.

Take the watch to an AD and have them look at it.

Thank you all so much

I really appreciate everyone easing my concern.

While we’re here…. If anyone is bored, might as well show you the rest. All look good? (I know my watch shots kinda suck - it’s dark out now and working with camera roll snaps and flash)

Didn’t know about the UV light trick. The date (year) looks little suspicious but maybe I’m just paranoid.

Mate, why are you suspicious? you said yourself its from a reputable dealer and trusted seller.

there is a subforum called "watchout" you can post on if you're worried about authenticity.

everything you posted looks good, from the watch to the box including the outer sleeves, the card even the foam that goes over the inner box lol

I'd be more concerned with how the date looks to have possibly been overwritten on the card.

No such thing as overly paranoid in my mind unfortunately. I see it too how the 9 is a bit off — clearly I can find error in everything.

I wish I knew why I was suspicious lol. My mind just can’t shut off. Appreciate the reassurance. Gonna get my new box and just try my best to drop the paranoia and finally enjoy my watch.

I hate to be the negative Nancy here, but you will never be happy with this watch now....at least until you send it in to RSC. I don't understand the people that say take it to an AD to be verified. I have never been in a single AD that I would have confidence in knowing the bracelet from the dial. The same people who just sold a pair of ear rings walk over to the Rolex counter to answer questions there, they are nothing special, just salespeople.

I have had the same exact thought myself, so no worries. I definitely don’t plan to take it to an AD for authentication. Not that it will stop my lingering paranoia, but I did look at the card again and doesn’t look like date was written over. Seems to have been written with a thin-tip marker and repeated a few times for thickness.

To me it looks more like someone changed 2014 to 2019, possibly so the buyer would think the watch still had an active five year warranty.

Completely agree with this. RSC or nothing.

I wouldn't sweat the box issue, especially since they are willing to replace it with another fine replica. But if you have any concerns at all with the watch, I concur with Wade (@donas) above - you won't be happy until it's been certified. And the only way to do that is to send it to the RSC. Ask for an estimate for service (the estimate is free) and they will let you know if any parts are not authentic.

Seriously: for the money that you spent, it's worth it for peace of mind. IMHO.
