15450 (white) v DaytonaC (white)

Have the DaytonaC, strongly considering the 15450. It’s my decision, blah blah … but would love thoughts from this group. Realize there might be myriad threads, but looking for latest input from folks - fresh.

AD purchase to AD purchase? or Gray to Gray? Or AD to Gray? Or Gray to AD?

I have both. The 15450 is similar in size to the Daytona. The Daytona is more an everyday watch than the 15450 IMO. The AP is a beautiful watch and a bit dressier than the Daytona. I'd say go for it if you can get one from an AD.

I have both, blue dial for 15450 and black dial for 116500LN and they are quite different.
Like mentioned earlier one is more suited as a daily wear while the other is lore for a classy look and special occasion I would say.
But follow your heart as always!

15450, in any dial color, is a gem. I prefer it to the 15500 and certainly to a ubiquitous watch like the DaytonaC.

I’d choose the 116500 over the 15450 but not over the 15500.

Either way both daytona and royal oak are wonderful pieces in their own right.

A Royal Oak, IMO, is always more special than a Daytona so I would add it but not necessarily trade, although I would get the 15500, 15400, 15300 or 15202 and not the 15450.

OP, don't you have a 15202? If I had a 15202 I would not think about a 15450 in any color. More generally, I am not the biggest fan of either the 15450 or the ceramic Daytona and I'd rather go grey also ... when it comes to the dial color of the 15450.

Yes I do. It has become a bit of a safe queen. Looking for a daily. Also looking at the grey dial. The DaytonaC has not sung to me like it first had.

116500 all day every day. To me it’s not even close, but I’m also a big Daytona fan and will choose a Daytona over almost anything. The 15450 is nice as well and something I think is a lovely addition to any collection, but it’s not a Daytona in my book.

Are you buying at retail or secondary? Whether or not we want to make it about pricing, that has to factor in here.

Personally, I wouldn’t sleep at night knowing I paid current market prices for a 15450. I think over time these will march right back towards MSRP, especially the silver dial model that just doesn’t have the cachet of the blue dial.

The Daytona may fall back to earth too, but it’s always going to be a Daytona and there will be some sort of premium and liquidity.

If you have the 15202 and you are looking for a daily then you should definitely go for the Daytona!

I have a grey dial 15450 I'll trade for your 15202. I'll even include a BNIB Hello Kitty watch.

Can you share why you're not connecting with your Daytona as much as before? I always feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I look at my Daytona and fail to see what everyone else seems to see.

Curve-ball. AD offered a Silver dial VC Overseas (4500v) and went that direction.

Yes, ceramic Daytonas are ubiquitous. Guess that’s why they sell for more than 3x MSRP now. Because they’re *everywhere*.

Hard to say. Certainly a beautiful, well made watch. It just feels like the $13,150 USD MSRP watch it is and I wanted to feel something that resonated more. Don’t get me wrong, I know there are vintage Daytonas and Rolex watches around the world that are 10, 100, 1000, 10000x their MSRP, but for someone like me … I wanted the feel of something nicer.

I don’t think they’re rare in terms of gross production, but they are certainly very had to acquire at retail. Simple supply way in excess of demand. I see Daytonas with some frequency in the wild where I live.

Agreed, 100%.

Congrats on the VC. Variety is the spice of life. Does it wear large compared to your 15202? 41mm is quite a step up compared to the 37mm 15450, no?

Just a three-hander and not a DT, but thanks! I think the VC Overseas third gen is and will continue to benefit from the PP and AP hype, so was happy to get in when I did. Helps that silver is not boutique only.

Oops, I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings but, since you live in NYC, take a trip to 47th st. between 5th and 6th Avenues and check out the window displays. Then go inside. "Expensive" doesn't necessarily translate to "rare", diamonds are a perfect example. You can see expensive diamonds on the subway or a Midtown bus. They're ubiquitous.

Whoops!! I shouldn’t reply to posts late at night! I am not sure why I assumed Dual Time. Enjoy the 3-hander…it’s an equal beauty for sure!

I’m familiar with the distinction between expensive and rare, thanks. Yet they are interrelated. And if 47th street is to be our guide, then Royal Oaks are “ubiquitous” as well.

You are 100% correct, Royal Oaks are ubiquitous. Just out of curiosity I went on chrono24 and searched "Rolex Daytona":5300+ for sale. Then I searched Audemars Royal Oak:5800+ for sale. I realize that the C24 numbers are inflated.
