Icon20 Hello from San Diego

Hello everyone! I guess you can say that I am fairly new to the watch world, with my first mechanical watch acquired in 2019. But if you’re reading this, you probably know how it went down. The first watch, then the second, then another, then you sell the first to finance the third, then the third doesn’t excite you as much a few months in, so you trade it in for the forth, etc etc. You get the idea.

At first, I told my wife and myself that I didn’t want a Rolex because it was too cliché to have a Rolex. But a few years in, I’ve come to the realization that my belief was just flawed and misguided.

I went through my Submariner phase, developing a mild obsession about this iconic model without ever acquiring one. What I learned from my 2 years of watch enthusiasm is that I shouldn’t impulse-buy anything but rather wait it out and see if it sticks.

Which takes me here…

For the past couple of months I’ve been laser focused on the GMT Master II 16710 Pepsi. I didn’t want to settle for the first available because I wanted it all: the unpolished watch that came with box, papers and all.

And I found it here eventually. So I created an account and PM’d the seller with whom I made the deal. I received the watch today and boy oh boy. It is even better than I expected.

I am located in San Diego area and would be happy to meet up in person with like-minded people to get a beer or go for a surf sesh.

Thank you for your warm welcome.

The watch is a Y serial indicating a production year of 2002. The clasp code is CL which indicates it is a 2004.

According to the warranty papers, the watch was originally sold in November 2005 by Eurochronos in Bolivia. Of course, I did a bit of research and found out that Eurochronos is a major AD down in Bolivia.

I shot a few pictures of it with my iPhone but the light in the room doesn't do it justice. The bezel almost appears to be a Coke bezel, but in reality it is a vibrant blue.
