Icon20 Official: TRF Watch industry predictions for 2022

eBay or an auction house with a dedicated watch division will buy chrono24 next year.

Rolex will increase MSRPs by as much as 30% and say it’s to dissuade the secondary market but in reality it’s because there’s no desire to up production or deal with raw material and supply chain issues

Basel is for real done and done

Tudor will offer true online sales

Watch insurers will begin refusing or leave the portfolio to insure due to replacement prices and risk exposure

LVMH will buy Swatch Group

What about you all?

I think we'll see timepieces that are refreshingly new and innovative. An abundance of limited editions from the commercial majors, while independents get more of the spotlight for creativity and innovation.

Or the whole CONfidence in markets and currencies implode. Hey, let's admit it, it was fun while it lasted. We drank champagne, ate sweet meats, smoked cigars, drive fast cars.... It was The Greatest Show on Earth.

Or aliens come down and EMP planet Earth, then mechanical timepieces and instruments for navigation will be in very high demand.

I like these predictions very much and feel (very wealthier) just thinking about it.

Rolex will remain a company who’s best years are deeper in the rearview than Betty whites bikini pictures

Grand seiko will release a limited edition

Haha this is probably true, so you can at least own a watch online.

I believe you've underestimated the sheer lacking in the creativity of Richemont's marketing department. At least 25 limited edition timepieces, with 50% being marketing pre-sold to their marketing partners. The other 25% are not for you, they don't care about your past purchases. The last 25% you'll have the opportunity at some point because the profit margins are too high to ignore yearly sales. The bronzo is a great example here.
