Bought a Rolex, can't tell if it's real?

Hi there. I recently found a Rolex in a charity shop, I don't think the old ladies who worked there realised what it was. It is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer, could anybody tell me how to identify whether this is real or fake? It has the holographic logo on the back which moves and there is a floating crown. It is quite heavy, and has an etched crown just underneath the 6. The glass is not scratched or marked, and when water is applied it pulls together. It has lots of numbers on it but I'm not sure what is actually supposed to be there. Any information given would be appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance!!

Could you post some pics? FYI the Laser Etched Coronet (LEC) is normally quite difficult to see unless you have a loupe (magnifyer) and oblique lighting. Also, I think it was introduced in 2001.

The strap looks like it's steel, but on the actual watch it is marked 18k

The case looks a bit off, not sure of the dial, and the end links look fishy too.
Hope I'm wrong. I'd take it to a Rolex AD for verification.

It's hard to believe that the LEC stand out so easily in your photos; there are a number of questionable things about this watch.

Agreed, too many issues to think anything but fake. Sorry.

I know it's tacky, but if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it?

I didn't pay a lot for it, as I said it was from a charity shop mixed up with a load of other watches, not realising what it was (or what it isn't)

Sorry, but you need to bin that. Fake watches are for fake people, that plus their manufacture supports all types of illegal activity including terrorism. Trash it and buy an authentic one.

Bring it to an AD and have it authenticated.

No need bro, I'm sure you could remove the back with your fingers and see the shiny POS movement. Come on, 18K SS???? Everything is wrong with the watch that could be, it's a Fugazi...It needs to be binned ASAP..

OK good. That's what I was getting at, I know a lot of vintage shops try to get top dollar, charity or not.

Thanks so much everyone for your helpful comments, was convinced I had got lucky, I think it was the holographic logo and the water pulling together on the glass that made me think it must be the real thing! Should have known better, anyway, will put this one down to terrible judgement on my part, again, thanks loads: thumbsup:
