Between these two, the price gap is pretty big, but that being said, i would take a the plat. Rolex over the steel pp... however if we were to be talking about 5711 platinum.. thats a diff story

Honestly, after having had the PP and currently a DD (granted wg w green dial), I would do the DD. Something about the 5711 bored me, where as something about the DD just really sings. I think its the weight and bracelet of the DD at the end of the day. The PT version (holy acronyms) must be even more awesome in that regard.

I tried on the DD yesterday, now that I've had it on my wrist, I'd say if you can get it for a good price lit might be worth it. The sticker shock at the price blew me away. Super nice watch though and unparalleled wrist feel.

I would not buy such a watch if you are already thinking of resale. Whichever you buy, it should be a keeper and resale should not factor into it.
If you are a flipper, then buy the 5711 and sell it for a slight loss. |

If you go try them both on. You'll know right away. One will call to you.

If the choice was 36mm day-date platinum, I'd go for Rolex.
But, between these two, I would go for Patek 5711. |

Get the patek... the price will stay the same or trend upward.
The platinum models can be had for significant discounts used in a few years (even now if you buy right.) This is all speculative though. |
