What lasts longer:Tight or loose fitting bracelets?

What will help prevent a bracelet from getting that loose/worn/older feeling between the links over time? a bracelet adjusted tightly on your wrist or one that is set loosely to hang on your wrist ?

Welcome to TRF.

Clean regulary with warm water and soap and this will help prevent alot of potential wear.

Proper fit is considered by most to be able to put the tip of your index finger between the bracelet and wrist when wearing.

I think a snug fit is recommended, not loose or too tight. This is recommended in my DJ manual.

As stated, clean your bracelet weekly in warm soapy water and wearing it snug(one finger)will help cut down on stretching. That's what I've always heard and do!!!

If it's link pin wear that is causing the looseness in bracelets over time, then I would think that a more tightly fitted bracelet, will wear less because there will be less movement of the links and pins causing less wear.

I wonder if the newer solid link bracelets will have stretch or not?

A loose bracelet will always wear faster then a tight one, but best to wear it snug or chance loosing circulation in your hand.

Ah....one of the eternal WIS dilemmas .......

I wear my watches snug and use HOT water and dish soap weekly on them. On my daily wear GMT I use denatured alcohol once a month on the bracelet only. Both the hot water and the denatured alcohol are targeting the buildup of oil and gunk that hold the abrasive dirt that causes most wear in a bracelet.

Wow. Looks like I learned something. When I read that keeping it clean was the most important, I thought you were pulling his leg. Then more people said it. And now it makes sense. I had never considered the effect of abrasive particles causing stretch...now I know. :)
