Rolex submariner 1981-1680- non-rolex parts fitted
Hi peeps, I'm currently looking in to purchasing a 1680 sub, the seller has notified me the plexi is not the original and the inlay is possibly not to, will this affect me getting the watch serviced, and also what would be a reasonable price to pay, it is in mint condition with all paperwork/boxs/instruction manual/calender/anchor etc, asking price is £5150, thanks for your time, Jay

I was under the impression that a 1981 submariner would be a 16800 model

without pictures, it's hard to say what the value is.
You could have a fake, half a fake, real dial, fake movement, fake dial, real movement...who knows. Serviced by who? Rolex? Independent?

Just to share my experience.
Assuming only the plexi and insert are aftermarket, what RSC would do is to require you to replace these 2 aftermarket parts before they would service the watch. I believe you can have RSC to replace these parts as part of the servicing. It is just a matter of adding to the cost of servicing. |

There's a difference between "not original" and fake. If they're authentic parts, that's fine. You can have non-original, authentic service replacements. If they're fake, I wouldn't even consider the purchase.

You are saying two different things though. Aftermarket means non-Rolex, not Rolex parts fitted after the initial sales. Service costs at Rolex are around 600 bucks but a new crown and tube if it needs it and a new insert would be extra. They will give you an estimate before starting work so you can see if it's a price you want to pay or go independent and save a few bucks.
