New Rolex - What's included?

Hi all,

So I'm looking to get a new Explorer shortly, or once it makes it to NZ anyway. Being a bit OCD I'm wanting to pick it up from the AD exactly as it ships from Rolex.

Can someone please explain to me how a Rolex arrives at an AD, how it is packaged, what stickers etc should be on it. I want to be able to clearly tell the AD what I want. I specifically don't want the watch shown to other customers and handled by all and sundry. Might be a bit over the top but it's a big purchase for me and I want to feel like I'm definitely the first person to have handled it.

Thanks in advance.

As far as stickers there will be pretty much well, a bunch of them. Say around 20 depending. If you really want it to have been untouched insist that they hand it over to you in the so called "coffin" that Rolex ships it in. I've never had an AD offer me that and I've never asked for it. Though you can. They may have tossed it in the rubbish already.

From there you should have an outer and inner box (and sometimes even a box sleeve, though I've only received one of those once.)

From there two booklets. One a generic Rolex booklet and the other specific to the model. Two tags. One round and either red or green and the other rectangular and green with hopefully the sticker still on it with the model and serial number. Though some are removed at time of sale.

Finally a polishing cloth and of course the warranty card filled out in your name with the date of purchase.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Gaijin,

So does the watch ship in the box or does it come in a separate package, the "coffin"?

Regarding stickers I've seen a QR style sticker on the side of some watches. Does the watch itself have any other stickers actually attached to it?

Finally is there anything that the experienced Rolex purchasers out there would recommend when buying a watch with regard to the AD? Something that I should check or ask?

Cheers,

J

The watch is shipped in the plastic coffin. The shipping box will include the actual Rolex box for the watch as well as the manuals but the watch is not in the Rolex box. Hang tags are on the watch. Multiple clear stickers on the case, clasp and bracelet. Bezel protector on the watch as well.. They no longer include a polishing cloth.

The AD I bought my BLNR from in Hawaii threw in the plastic shipping coffin because I was wearing my Explorer when I walked in and needed something to put it in as I decided to wear the new BLNR there and then... plus they gave me a copy of the Rolex magazine... Congrats on your "upcoming" purchase - you'll love it... it's a great watch.
I now have the luxury of rotating mine daily...
cheers

Forgot about the bezel protector. I had my old AD fish it out of the rubbish once. Haha. Luckily it was right on top of the pile.

Have a look at my Daytona unboxing as the accessories should be identical...

Rolex ships the green boxes separately, they are not shipped with the watches. The shipment from Rolex SA only contains the plastic coffins with tags and cards and sleeve stickers. Rolex USA and the big retailers do it differently though, that depends on the retailer. But direct from Rolex, they come separately.

Don't think about the 100+ technicians who have handled your watch during production then!

You'll never be the first first but I know what you mean. Just tell them precisely what you told us. They will accomodate you!

Just tell them you want Geneva air and they will get the point. Leave it in the plastic box sealed up until you get there. I would think they could accommodate that if it is bought and paid for. And as Grady said, batteries not included!!

I don't believe that the watch being presented in the coffin guarantees the watch is untouched.

I once got to try on a Platinum Daytona in an AD in Dubai. The watch came out of the coffin, I tried it on etc and then it went straight back in to the coffin for the next guy.

Ditto with a 116520. Closest thing to a guarantee is if you're a good customer and you make a special request. Even then they could just lie lol you'd never know.

leather wallet

Hey everyone, I just got my new 114060 new from my AD and I did not receive the green leather wallet for the warranty card? Is Rolex still giving these out with new watches? I did receive the little green cardboard holder for the card and booklets.

How much do those coffins go for on ebay?

Ah, not enough for a bargain bucket... shame.
