I think they do give their fans what they want, they just do it in their timeline slowly.

You can't always get what you want...
But sometimes, you get what you need. |

How could Rolex (or any other company) give everyone what they wanted?

In regards to gilt dials, domed crystals, even like red text, and rerelease of a coke, while I love faux-vintage styling, I kinda respect Rolex for leaving vintage for vintage pieces, and what is new and modern will be vintage someday. Why create stuff to look old, when you're making things that you hope will last forever?

The dollar (or CHF) is king. Can't fault them for that.

I think if Rolex were to use the popular design elements from vintage watches, it would cheapen those watches. They could easily produce a watch that looks exactly like the to-die-for Daytona, but they don't. If they did, the watches would generate a lot of company profit. Instead, I see them moving forward with new designs and leaving the wonderful vintage watches alone.
Some manufactures do as was suggested by this thread. Omega in particular has produced watches based specifically on popular vintage watches. But I am not aware of Rolex doing this. |
