Rolex Oyster Precision
Hi Guys,
I am new on the forum and was wondering if any of you know more about this Rolex Oyster Precision? It recently came into my possession as part of a large purchase of vintage stuff. Appreciate your help! Regards |

Difficult to see with those blurry pictures. Also if you can take a flat (non angled) pictures of the dial. Also, there should 'swiss' under the 6 o'clock marker.

Thanks for your quick reply. I am currently on a holiday address, so I only have the pictures I made before I left (see attached).
Hopefully this will already tell a bit more. As far as i can remember the word 'swiss' was below the 6 dial. I cannot find anything on this watch online... |

It indeed has 'swiss' below the 6 no.
Attached see some other pictures of the watch and its movement. All feedback is appreciated, since I cannot find anything online on this watch |

Looks a lot like the Pall Mall Observatory on sale at Etsy. 17 jewel, manual wind, not super high value because it's smaller than a bubbleback. I am not the most knowledgeable but the dial appears to be repainted. Nice watch! If you search the "4270" model number on the inside of the caseback, you'll see similar movements in some of the items pictured.

If the case back is correct then it is a model 4270 which is a 30mm ladies watch. Looking at the dial and hand style im going to guess from the late 50s into the early 60s. Once you have a service done on it you will have a nice ladies watch which is valued at or below $1000. Ladies watches are a very hard sale though due to their very small size. If the dial is a repaint as stated above then it will hurt the value of the watch. We wont know until we get a clear straight on shot of the dial.

Thanks for the quick reply! I like the watch as well, but heard that the manual wind Rolexes (pre 60's) are - in general - less valuable that automatic movements.

In general sense yes, but there are many manual wind watches with great value

No disrespect to offrdmania: are you sure this is a ladies watch? Watches in the 30s and 40s were much smaller than in the 60s and 70s. People were smaller, but more importantly, wristwatches were MODERN, trying to be different from the pocket-watches of the previous generation. I have bubblebacks, definitely men's watches, that are 31mm, as well as an Oyster Centergraphe, which is undeniably a men's watch, but only 29mm. Most of the Speedmasters were 30mm and definitely for men. I think this is a men's watch, but a small one.

A 30mm watch before 1990 would not have been a "Ladies Watch"

It was typical for a 30mm watch to be called a "boys watch" in that era.

It is a mens watch, small but still back in those days that was the size for many watches.

4270 is NOT a ladies watch. It's a traditional Speed King Size men's watch with a calibre 710-10.5 H. This being a slightly later variety with shock resisting.
Also having a rose gold engine turned bezel and rose gold crown...a little less common. The engine turned bezel has been sadly very polished. |

30mm was actually a man's size during this time period.
The military issued watches for WWII and the 50's measured 30mm as well. Women's watches were typically less than 20mm in size. Patek made 28mm dress watches for men into the 70's I believe. However, as stated previously , due the to the change in tastes with size, these watches do not bring alot of money at present. Oh, how times have changed. |
