6542 GMT Question

This 6542 Seems to be fairly priced. I understand that the bezel isnt original and has a service dial. Does that really affect the value THAT much?

Is it tough to source an original bakelite bezel?

Id love to purchase this but don't want to make a mistake.

Finding an original Bakelite bezel in good original condition is near impossible and if You do expect to pay 10K+ for it.

Yes. To the tune of many, many thousands of dollars.

I know someone that turned down $20,000 for a bakelite about four months ago. He sold it for $22,500.

The dial and bezel make up the majority of the aesthetic appeal for this model and finding adequate replacements would be very difficult and extremely expensive... And in the end they'd be just that, replacements...
