Accuracy?

I've had my BLNR for nearly a year and it was brand new purchaced from an AD. I wear it every day and at one or two weekly intervals I reset the time and give it a bit of a clean.

Up until a few weeks ago it's always been pretty much running +2 sec fast per day, which is within spec and very consistent. However a few weeks ago it suddenly jumped to +3 sec per day average. At first I put this down to maybe I made a mistake when resetting the watch, but it's been a few weeks since then and it's definitely the watch...

It's still well within the warranty period so should I return it to the AD or just leave it and see if the accuracy improves or gets worse? For your information I usually check the time against 'Time.is'.

3 seconds out of 86,400 per day vs. 2 seconds per 86,400 isnt a big deal to me. But sure if you want to send your watch in for regulation then you might as well.

There are many factors that can account for this small deviation. Activity level, how the watch is positioned at night etc. Gravity does have a slight effect on the movement when talking about such small deviations based on how it is positioned which is why a tourbillion was invented to counteract this.

Perfect example is if i borrowed your watch and based on my wearing habits it might run slightly different for me than you based on the factors i mentioned. You can regulate it yes, but if your wearing habits change the timekeeping might slightly as well.

Do you really think this is a warranty issue?

There is NO WAY I would initiate a warranty claim on a brand new watch on the belief it’s accuracy changed from +2 to +3.

I would neither want to part with nor have my brand new watch shipped to Rolex for the case to be opened, and have movement adjusted for a +1 second variation.

Remember this: the less a watch is opened the better.

Your watch is fine. The new SS SkyD here is -4... a month.

Reset it again using timeanddate UTC time. I've found this to be the closest to my computer, cable box and my phone. While it's usually a second off from the atomic clock website I don't care. Wear it and let it gain +2/+3 and then when you take it off lay it down overnight with the crown up and it should lose those 2 seconds overnight. My BLNR either always has the exact time or is just a second fast when I do this.

Also I wouldn't take it in for any kind of service for +3. Rolex movements are so accurate that they spoil OCD types like us. Many other much more expensive and prestigious watches simply aren't as accurate as Rolex's simple movements. My father who is a huge fan of Breguet and used to talk trash on Rolex was really surprised how accurate they are compared to his Marine when he took it in for an overhaul and had to wear a 116528 for 4 months (poor him right?) while he waited for the watch to come back from Breguet. He also wears old Datejust style quartz Citizens as daily beaters and it's just impossible for mechanical movements to match that accuracy. I told him if you don't like the Daytona, I'll gladly take it from you haha! He told me it's yours but just not now!

Your fine. Enjoy the watch. There is nothing (and I mean nothing) in your life that would change from your watch keeping +2 seconds a day to +3 seconds a day. If your watch slips to maybe +6 seconds a day, then perhaps a regulation wouldn’t be insane for the ocd owner.

+ 3 is great so find a negative over night resting position.
