Ceramic does scratch and will scratch. This is the fact of life and physics for all metals...including vibranium (Just look at what Black Panther did to Captain Americas shield!)

All seriousness, don't forget it is highly polished, glossy ceramic, hence based on that alone, scratches can happen.

Had a long chat to RSC watchmaker about this, and as he clearly pointed out, it is designed to reduce micro scratches (which is visible in any polished material), but there is always a sweet spot with every material. Hit it at the right angle/force/vs. material and a visible mark will occur.

What surprised me the most was the replacement cost, in comparison to the prices "suggested" on the forum, so here is what the AUS RSC quoted me:

Ceramic Bezel insert: $500 AUD
Ceramic Bezel insert and new bezel : $600 AUD !!! (only an extra $100 AUD..go figure), but nice to know its not $1000 AUD.

Had my new BLNR a month or so now. Dinked it on a metal chair earlier today and have notices a load of marks since. Tried giving it a decent clean with no success.

You can't see the marks when you look at the bezel dead on but they show when it catches the light. The picture below looks particularly bad, as it's zoomed and HQ.

Any ideas apart from tell myself it adds character!

Some how in the past month or two my SD43 has picked up bezel scratches (couple near 50, another near 40), and a cracked pip, complete mystery how that happened :/

All part of wearing it, no point having a safe queen.
I’d still have aluminium back in heartbeat!

Anyone who doubts that a ceramic bezel won’t scratch is not dealing with factual data.
My daily wearer, a 4 year old BLNR has a small but visible indented marking close to the "20".
It’s there and I don’t care. Also the back of the watch case has some scratches where the bracelet folds into itself when I store it in my golf bag while playing.
First World Problem=no big deal

i always think that the surge in demand of rolex since 2017 is partly due to the ceramic bezel.

I haven't had any problems with mine.
Though at times I fully believe I well and truly should have with the amount of damage I have on my DSSD with dings, scratches and gouges all over it.
I've looked it over after coping a hit on the Crystal that has either chipped the Crystal or damaged the SS part of the bezel and nothing yet after 12 years of accumulated damage everywhere else.

Guys, if even a diamond can be scratched (by another diamond), do you honestly think ceramic bezel cannot be scratched? Lol

I have a few really small points of patina on the bezel of my 116710LN. Not sure when I bought it new. It's probably had its tenth birthday. I serviced it once at five years and they recommended a bezel chamge but I declined. I'll do the same at the next service if they'll let me. It's been more or less a daily wearer for me. The points are so small that you have to hold the watch right up to your face to see them and even then you'd really have to be looking. The ceramic holds up marvelously in my opinion. I'm not a watch spray and watch pillow sort of guy. It's a tool and is used as such in my aviation career.

Was the pre ceramic bezel really such a big problem or is it just marketing? You know, the masses run out to buy the latest and greatest, repeat. My 20 year old 14060 doesn't have any noticable bezel scratches. Personally I dislike the shiny, blingy ceramic version.

I wore a 116710 for 16 years and the ceramic insert was scratch free when I traded it.

The ceramic part, no. The platinum part on the bezel insert (the big triangle on the GMT II), YES! They swapped it out for me at service (for a fee). It was driving me crazy. There is no way to remedy that, it's leave it or swap it.

I have to agree, ceramic leaves me cold. The only exception is the matte ceramic Pelagos.

Rollieworks and LA Watchworks can put a matte finish on a SubC.

interesting I've just recently noticed a very visable scratch on the blue part of my GMT BLNR. I dont know how its happened as im very careful but it seems it may be something more often seen on the blue part of the BLNR then on any other ceramic bezel.

Had a ceramic sub as a daily for three years: never got a bezel-scratch.

Afraid its not, my Pepsi on jubilee had an argument with my wife's diamond ring. Long story short, scratch right across the glass and onto the bezel. That's not going to be a cheap fix!

It would be if you had a 5 digit sub.

Can’t get it fixed unfortunately. Even though they’re all genuine parts Rolex have their stupid policy and won’t touch it. Downside of a modded watch I’m afraid. Omega would be applauding the effort to try something new!
