Input on this waffle dial OP?
Complete novice to the Rolex Forum here and hoping any seasoned Rolex experts might have some input on this OP that I recently obtained.
I've always loved vintage Oysters but have never researched or owned one. I stumbled upon this waffle dial Oyster with the riveted bracelet and engine turned dial. It was overhauled last year and appears to be super clean and very well maintained. I bought it on a total whim without any research and while I love it I am wondering if I really got a true gem. The riveted bracelet is one of the things I love about it although it surprised me how lightweight the bracelet feels (and more comfortable because it has some stretch) compared to my daily wear (Cartier Tank Francaise). I looked up the serial # and it does reference a 1942 but I also read somewhere that some of the earlier serial numbers from 42 and 43 were reused in the 50's. Any opinions or information would be greatly appreciated. I do have pics of the bracelet and crown as well. |

It looks nice, but the dial has been "refreshed" in the past I think. What is the case reference (I'm thinking 6285)?
This is what an original one should look like (not my watch):

Thanks for the reply Adam.
The reference number on the case is 6565. I knew the dial was refreshed. I LOVE the look of an untouched dial but thought this was too good to pass up even though it wasn't in an all original state which seems impossible to find an untouched model. |

It looks fine. Just don't pay too much, knowing that the dial is refinished (that likely devalues it at least 30%, probably).

Thanks Adam. Do you have a sense of what you would pay for this model based upon the refinish? For me I realize it's like someone that refinished an antique and lowered the value but I still love the vintage details over the new models any day.

Not really sure, also depends if the bracelet is original Rolex and in good unstretched condition. And if the watch is in good running order.

That lug at 11 looks very worn.
