Poll: why doesn't rolex give us EXACTLY what we want

First off this poll is strictly a bit of fun. I know we don't have the answer but I want your thoughts.

Why doesn't rolex deliver exactly what we want? We all could rattle off a list of watches that would sell like hotcakes...but sometimes rolex either doesn't deliver or leaves out certain aspects we would die for.

For instance:

Why doesn't the SDc have a domed crystal?

Why not give us a red sub or double red SD?

Why not give us some gilt gmts subs?

Why not give us an SS coke?

Why not give us the 116500 with panda dial?

Why not give us Stella dial DD40s?

Yada yada yada

Personally, I don't really " want"
Any of the above examples; I want something more basic that would make every single Rolex dial more stunning and
Clear--A/R coating on the underside of the crystal!

Forward looking. I prefer that compared to many other brands, including T.... that are still relying on historical models designs.

My vote: Rolex doesn't cater to the WIS minority...sigh

I think they try and keep us wanting more. Perfect marketing strategy for them!

Personally, (and I haven't reached the WIS level), I think there are so many choices that I can find something that I like with their current selection. I have three now, a SS Sub/date, a gold/SS 36mm DJ and my newest, a Basel 2015 OP 39mm. I do have my eye on the new Explorer I. If they made a Yacht Master I with no date, I'd like that. I now prefer less complications and am not interested in even having a date anymore. I guess I'm swimming against the current here.

Simple enough to me. They can't give all of us what we want. Even if Rolex had the funds to satisfy all of our whims in their product line, how many AD's could afford to carry all that inventory. Not sure a Meijer store would be big enough.

I'm perfectly happy with the current product line. All I want is to roll back to say 1980 prices. Oh what the heck, as long as we're at it let's go back to 1970

I'm happy with what they offer.

But to your point, why don't they offer a bespoke service?

I think that they believe that they know best. And they may be right. I think they could meet in the middle on some models though.

I was gonna say, Tom, well actually they do, but I want half of those watches you've listed so I get it . I think they are trying to please as many people as possible and remain fairly stable and limited, and while sales are still strong they will not deviate from their trickle strategy but I do firmly agree that what TRF collectively want should be their first priority!

That would be great. I'm sure wis would happily pay up for things the way they want them and meanwhile joe public wouldn't know any different as he buys the regular offerings.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Pretty evenly split so far

About 800,00 times a year Rolex' product line decisions are validated.

Follow the money

Rolex does what any successful business does - it follows the money. Just because I'm a WIS doesn't mean I generate the most revenue for Rolex. That's more likely to be the person who buys one really good watch in their lifetime to celebrate some important achievement. They buy the brand name and the looks: that's it. If Rolex has designed a good looking watch in their eyes then the credit card goes down.

I think the main problem is, who is "us"? I certainly don't long for every model to be a retro throwback peice. Others feel differently. All of us are still WIS

Yeah I think this gets down to the nitty gritty. Just reading a few responses I'm glad they aren't taking everyone's opinion

I guess I have fallen for the classic projection bias.
