Rolex Daytona SS Bezel .... No longer engraved??

Just picked up my new SS Daytona this morning and the tachymeter numbers seem to be printed on rather than engraved.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

I'm assuming if they are printed, it would enable Rolex at servicing time to polish the bezel and 're-print' the numbers onto the newly polished bezel?

I remember this discussion, but I still can't figure out the difference. I had a V serial, and it did seem like a nice deep engraving, but how does the new printing on the bezel have the advantage?

It still looks good in the flesh, so no worries!

Missed it the first time around... "Transitional" reference?

I would prefer the extra labor of engraving.

My V serial Daytona purchased back in 2010 had an engraved bezel.

Thanks for the update. I'm wondering if it is due to polishing the bezel making the engravings too shallow over time. This way they could simply shallow engrave/print again after an RSC polish?

More likely they would just want to replace the bezel. Machinery like that would cost a lot to supply to every RSC, just for a fairly minor issue with one type of watch.

x2...for that kind of money, an engraved bezel just looks better & maintains the traditional Daytona design/appearance. a printed bezel is something one might expect to see on a lesser priced or lower grade chronograph.

I thought that RSC would not polish the Daytona bezel anyway?

Is it common for old Daytona's to lose their writing on the bezel over time?

I've only seen one for sale, gold, about 20 years old, which had the numbers worn away near the crown, but it looked like it was caused by someone's thumb winding the watch all those years, as it was just in that single place.

This causes me to wonder if there is, or will be, a similar change to the Explorer II as well.

I think I would prefer an example with engraved indices, though undoubtedly the other one will be hawked as the ultra rare and highly collectible version.

Deeper engraving is much nicer... guess they knew the C was coming all along.

Oh no...now there will be a premium on the "shallow engraved" "collectible" Daytonas...can you say 3186 GMT movement / "error dial?"

😆

I wondered why the markings came off the first time I showered with it! Seriously...I bought mine new just recently and the bezel markings are engraved, not printed.

When you run your finger across you can feel the numbers very clearly
