First Post-First Tudor: Prince Oysterdate
Hi Folks,
First post & first Tudor. A Prince Oysterdate. I've been reading up on this very nice forum to help in researching a Tudor watch to acquire. Thanks to the many members who have shared their knowledge. Markings on the watch indicate a reference 9050/0. I would be interested to hear what people think. Attached are some photos for review. It looks too nice and that movement doesnt look right. Looks like one of those fake Chinese Tudor movements.
Post pics of either the serial number or model number between the lugs. The engraving on fake cases sticks out like a sore thumb. The case back etching on the outside looks very crudely done. My honest opinion is that this is one of the many Tudor fakes that is floating around.

I am unable to obtain a clear photo between the lugs on either side. Please see below. The finish is quite rough between the lugs-looks like a wire brush, very coarse. With a lighted loupe, I can make out "9050/0" on top and "STAINLESS STEEL" & "879801" on the bottom (6). The "wire brush marks" make it difficult to read/photograph. Thanks again and welcome input as to authenticity. Paul |

It looks fine to me, get someone to look at it in the flesh. The 'wire brush' look between the lugs is normal.
Here's a Tudor movment on one of mine |

It's hard to see anything in that pic and my evaluation may just be from the foggy pics you posted. Here is a pic of a real vintage Tudor engraving and of a fake one side by side. The fake engraving is on the right. It's too perfect and sticks out like a sore thumb.

I will take the watch to a local shop for them to take a look. Here is another picture of the movement. |

I appreciate you taking the time to help. The engraving on the watch appears similar to the watch on the left in your picture-the numbers are spaced further apart from each other. I'll get the watch into a shop for them to have a look. Best regards, Paul |

Matt is correct, the watch is in phenomenal condition, not a spot of corrosion but the bracelet wear on the underside of the lugs is not commonly faked. The caseback engraving looks normal to me. You can go to chrono24.com to see other examples.
Matt may be right but the watch deserves every chance. If it's real, it's a humdinger! :) |

I was able to stop by a local watch shop today and have them look at the watch. They inspected the case & dial, wound the crown, and opened the back to inspect the movement. They stated the watch was all original and authentic.
They also noted that the watch was due for service. The shop had a number of vintage Tudor and Rolex watches for sale in their display case. I feel I have dodged a bullet in regards to purchasing a fake. Lesson learned: Authenticate before purchasing! I believe I will have this shop service the watch. They said they currently have a 3 month backlog. A bit longer than I would care to wait, but I would like to support their business as they were kind enough to spend several minutes examining the watch directly, and at no charge when I asked what I owed for the inspection. Many thanks to the members who shared their time and expertise. Thank you!! One more shot of the watch: |
